I hope everyones weekend was eventfull. Mine was not!!! Last night we had a small barn fire. Some chickens hurt and possibly wont make it. The fire from a heat lamp that was for keeping the water liquid and the light socket must have shorted out. I went to the barn to the barn to do chores and the whole barn was full of smoke. I lost two portions of my coop and some chickens were injured. Thank GOD for the FD, I was amazed that they were able to get through the snow banks that were 3 feet deep. Dad and I had alittle smoke inhailation but it will be till spring for repairs.
Tripell -- glad you guys are ok!!
You are the 3rd person I know of in a year with a barn fire or other light bulb/accident issue. I got so paranoid about the heat lamps and fire potential that I bought an infrared brooder heater. It was pricey, but ****, not as pricey as a fire.
I had 25 silver grey dorking chicks delivered from McMurray this morning, and it works PERFECTLY. Much more natural too as daylight and dark aren't affected by a light bulb on 24/7. I'm sure it would work to keep water in liquid form for you peeps north of here. A friend in Wisconsin has had one for 3 years now and still loves hers. That's where I heard about it.

And NO I don't work for them *lol*
My goodness that is a miracle, I hope he heals well and continues to be a good patient, My dad still drives at 86 which worries me some, knowing how tired I can get driving from the city out to our town, but he's still very independent too. an hopefully will continue to be, Thats alot of responsibility put on your shoulders glad your daughter is helping. I just put your dad on my prayer list.Triplell, I am SO sorry to hear about your barn fire, but very glad no chickens were roasted outright and that you and your Dad came through relatively unscathed. Things have been crazy here since last Thursday, when my 87-yr-old dad apparently nodded off while driving and plowed into a light pole at 40 mph. The car is totaled, as you might imagine, and he was lucky he wasn't killed. He broke both the tibia and fibula in his left leg, about 2 inches above the ankle, broke two ribs on his right side, cracked a bone in his right heel, and got some other cuts and bruises. He had surgery Saturday morning on his leg, and they put in a plate and screws in one bone, but the other was too close to the skin (and his skin is very thin at his age) so they could only put screws in it. He cannot put any weight on it for at least 3 months! He is still in the hospital, and will probably be there all this week, at least, and then they will move him to a rehab center. There, they will keep him exercising his arms and legs, and teaching him how to hop around using a walker. That last part should be fun with a chipped bone in his right heel and his two broken ribs! He's always been so active, so I am surprised that he is being as good a patient has he's been so far. Just thinking of the next few months makes me so tired. Driving 30 miles each way to see him every day, and the exhaustion that for some reason just sitting around in the hospital entails. And, of course, now I have to do my chores and his chores, plus my full-time job. I have to say that my daughter has stepped up and is being a huge help. Please include him in your prayer lists -- his name is Bill Todd.
