Splenda---have you had any problems using it?

My 11 year old grandaughter is Type 1 also and agreed there isnt a whole lot of sweetners out there she can have.

Do you have Market Basket stores near you ? They are now selling Stevia in little packages. I was thrilled to find it in a grocery store.
I am deathly allergic to aspertame and yes splenda has the same reaction as equal and others.

I will include this link and you can judge for yourself
as with anything your milage may vary.

My brother-in-laws sister told me her Dads mother's great aunt's son's daughter had a problem with Splenda but it dont affect me too much. Other than not sleepin' through the night.

Great hot chocolate: A little water in a mug, heat to boiling in the nuker. Add a spoonful of unsweetened baking cocoa (cheapest at Walmart!) and stir-stir-stir. Add a tiny pinch of salt and a splash of pure vanilla extract and a couple stevia packets, to taste (might start with one...it depends on how high you pile the cocoa on the spoon!) and stir. Fill the mug with milk and microwave just until hot. Yum!

Freemotion, thanks so much for the info. I agree totally. I think spekcledhen said too, shop the outside of the grocery store and check ingredients!!! If it's longer than four or five things and has things in it you don't understand or can't even pronounce, put it back. Fake food is immediate gratification but easy is not better. Take the time and make it the old-fashioned way.

My two year old loves broccoli and brussel sprouts. We do put a little salt and pepper and regular butter on it. He loves all veggies and everyone is always SHOCKED to see him eat. I can't believe no one cooks anymore. My nieces and nephews can't even look at veggies because they weren't brought up eating them. Vegetables are so important for health. They are the best antioxidant you can ingest. Add a non-vegetable diet to an artificial diet and your dumping waste into your body with nothing to clean it back out.

This is something I think the government should take a more active role in. I think the advertisements are powerful for packaged foods but you never see a commercial for asparagus ?? There needs to be more education. This is the first generation where scientists believe parents may outlive their children.

migraines, and a nosebleed once that was the last time i had anything with it, it's getting hard to avoid, coke is putting it in 2/3 of their product line

it was splenda'ed hope it was just a mislabeled bottle. but it went in the trash anyway

Great, MsBear, nice to see a parent feeding her child real food! Butter those veggies....fat is needed, especially in growing children, for the body to use the fat-soluble vitamins. If you can get butter from grass-fed cows, even better. Lots of eggs from chickens that get outside is also great for kids.

The government is too influenced by the big corporations with lots of money, so I cannot imagine they will ever give us good advice. They gave us the old food pyramid, which played a huge role in the health issues that are killing us and the kids today. The new one is not that much better, although a little better.

You know that 3-5 serving per day of fruits/veggies recommendation? It is really 9-12, but they found that people tended to think, "I can't do that, I might as well give up completely." So they went with 3, since if someone gets only 2, they say, "I did pretty good today!" Yikes!

Yup, I now shop farmer's markets for what I don't grow, and the outside of the grocery store in the winter....if it doesn't need a label, that is the best! What most people don't realize is that you can eat a healthy diet for less money than an unhealthy diet.

Hurray for you, teaching your kids to like veggies! I remember my mom always scrubbed every veggies with soap and a brush, since the three of us would hover around her when she peeled and chopped for supper, and beg the peelings to eat. I loved getting the core of a cabbage to gnaw on, and we loved the cucumber ends and peels. I guess I was always a bit weird!

Wow interesting subject. there is the stevia crowd, spelnda lovers and everyone hates the stuff in the little blue packet. seems though that the consensus is sugar is natural and the best. well hate to rain on that one... sugar is poisonous. but before ya completely freak out do a simple google search, sugar a poison? there are 5,000,000 sites.

Later, the sugar pushers advertised that sugar was chemically pure, topping Ivory soap in that department, being 99.9 per cent pure against Ivory's vaunted 99.44 per cent. "No food of our everyday diet is purer," we were assured. What was meant by purity, besides the unarguable fact that all vitamins, minerals, salts, fibers and proteins had been removed in the refining process? Well, the sugar pushers came up with a new slant on purity. "You don't have to sort it like beans, wash it like rice. Every grain is like every other. No waste attends its use. No useless bones like in meat, no grounds like coffee." "Pure" is a favorite adjective of the sugar pushers because it means one thing to the chemists and another thing to the ordinary mortals. When honey is labeled pure, this means that it is in its natural state (stolen directly from the bees who made it), with no adulteration with sucrose to stretch it and no harmful chemical residues which may have been sprayed on the flowers. It does not mean that the honey is free from minerals like iodine, iron, calcium, phosphorus or multiple vitamins. So effective is the purification process which sugar cane and beets undergo in the refineries that sugar ends up as chemically pure as the morphine or the heroin a chemist has on the laboratory shelves.

Everyone of these listed disorders can be attributed to 1100 other different causes.
sugar alone does not create all or any of the above.
