My Indian Runner Angel is recovering from surgery and is spending a little quality time on my lap. She is getting a bit spoiled I'm afraid. She is still not walking, but the vets are suggesting several swims a day. Anyone else ever have a duck that is recovering from bumblefoot that the foot stays swollen for a long time afterward and they can't walk for a while. I'm on day seven of the antibiotics and the swelling did not go away after surgery. Will it go away eventually or will she lose the use of that leg. The vet said it could take months.

Owhhh poor baby
I'm not sure how long it'd take but she looks like shes getting looked after, and a relaxing, happy recovery is the best sort.

No - she is a little messy for that. She would have to share the bed with a gray kitty and a border collie - so don't think she would be too happy there. It is tempting though. I don't want her to get too lonesome. She is in a large dog kennel in the garage next to the pen with my other ducks. I figure at least they can visit that way. When she hears me come home from work she makes a lot of noise until I go out and visit her though.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question as I don't have any ducks yet, but your baby is precious.
Hope she is fully recovered soon.

Thanks Kysilkies - She has been wearing shoes - I don't know what I would have done with out them, but she had quit walking and then had surgery, and the swelling has not gone away. She continues to wear the shoes and it keeps her foot clean. The outside of her foot looks great, it is just that the swelling won't go away and she can't walk - and maybe it is just a matter of me being patient and letting her swim several times a day. The vet said it could take several months. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced that with their duck - a duck that couldn't walk, with a swelled foot, that recovered after months of care.
