Hi.

...My Spotted Dusky girl at two-days-old (with her siblings) :

I had got three Light Dusky Indian Runner ducklings from this clutch... two of which being, in fact, Spotted Dusky...!

Here... :

At first, it is actually pretty difficult to distinguish Spotted Dusky ducklings from (ordinary) Light Dusky ones, since they look so much alike...
...but there is a small difference : indeed, Spotted Dusky ducklings' "down has some of the smokey effect that harlequin ducklings are known for" - to quote Dusky Feathers Waterfowl here...

► As you can see in the picture, my Spotted Dusky girl had a Spotted Dusky sibling.
A brother, to be specific...!

I had sadly re-homed him without taking satisfying pictures of him, but...
...here he was, at 2-months-old - the drakelet on our right :

(On our left is an ordinary Light Dusky drakelet...)

We can at least see this Spotted Dusky boy has BLUE wing speculums - a BLUE that appears darkish, purplish and softer than a Mallard's, but that is (I promise!) still very much iridescent.

In fact, his speculums are a bit darker than his Spotted Dusky sister...
...I would guess it is due to the Dusky gene instead of the Harlequin one... but what do I know?

...To BETTER compare with his sister...

His sister, like, ONE MINUTE before... :

See the difference in colour?
