Deadlines and other swap rules are listed in post #1.

Well I am sorry to disappoint you but if it's ok I'm back in. I'm headed to the store today to buy yarn. My volunteer job at the school is off this week so I've time.

I have participated in swaps before at church but they usually pick a color and brand of yarn. This way all the squares are of the same yarn. And it is knit. We all knit a12" square. I usually use the same pattern.

This one is different and a little more confusing. Only a few have posted pics of their squares. You've got dark colors and light colors. I should probably have taken DD to the store. She would know, she goes to the cloth store with me and picks out "matching" clothes.

For those who do not know, I'm a he not a she. I won't go into the history of my learning to crochet and knit, except to say my grandmother was a crocheter.

Buastin's squares have opened my eyes so I'm printing her page and taking it to the store. Heck who can't use more yarn, right?

I'll pick a "flatter" pattern, I'm sure I've got one around here some where.

I'll be using Vanna Choice yarn if that's ok.

As Sunny stated you are not to late. I think the deadline to sign up is next Tue Feb 28th. I'm sure baustin (Betty) will add you to the list as soon as she logs on. Check out page 1 post 1 for all the guide lines and deadlines. There is a "cool" color wheel for a palette floating around this thread posted in several places. The theme is 4ply, "Cool" yarn colors in the shades of blues, greens, & purples. 6" granny squares in any pattern as long as the finished product is 6 x 6.

Welcome back, Rancher!!!!!

So glad you reconsidered! It is a lot of fun!!!! Can't wait to see what yarn you pick. We are all picture junkies in the crochet section!!! It won't be the first time to have a male crocheter/knitter join in on a BYC swap. I didn't get that you were a "he" until in your private message you posted that your "DW" was a sewer.

My hubby always brags that his grandma taught him how to crochet and he made his GI Joe some crocheted pants when he was a kid.

Glad to hear you are back in Rancher. Nothing wrong with a "he" knowing how to knit or crochet. I know a few that quilt and crosstitch also. Whatever you find that's fun to do. I'm a she but do things aound the house a man would normally do since my hubby doesn't like to get his hands dirty.

I'm adding you to the list. Please refer to the first post with directions for colors, sizes, etc. Vanna White yarn is fine as long as it's four ply. Again, Welcome. The more the merrier.

Welcome, welcome! I will add you to the list. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. My husband did something to his e-mail and it somehow got us blocked as a spammer. I've just got that mess cleared up and hope now I'm good to go. Please read the original post for the rules. All blocks need to be to me by the deadline I posted so Writer of Words students can get their blocks before school is out. I didn't post in the beginning about receiving blocks that don't quite fit in.....if there are blocks not in the color wheel of cool colors I will forward them to Writer of Words (Kate) as her students can put them to good use.

So Betty you want the squares @ your house in hand by April 28th deadline? Just want to make sure I'm staying on task. I need to get my fingers flying.

Sorry you are still having issues receiving the notifications. I'm still learning the whole new forum format and how to post quotes w/ pics. Have a great day!

So happy to see the Spring swap back off and running smoothly! I thought you had mentioned a while back, Rancher, that you were a guy but when everyone kept saying "she" I assumed I had you mixed up with someone else. There is another guy that crochets on BYC so I figured I just got confused.

My Hubby's doctor wants him to learn to crochet. He is having some memory issues and the doc says learning something new will help him to create new pathways in the brain keeping it healthier. So now DH wants me to teach him to crochet. With his memory going this ought to be quite a challenge. But we will give it our best! My Dad says he used to know how to crochet. He got sick as a kid and his Mom taught him so he could pass the time easier while he was laid up. His Mom also taught me but I forgot most of it til I relearned from a book later.

So how cool is that? Crocheting keeps the brain healthy? But I bet a lot of you knew that already.

Rancher I love the idea about picking the brand and colors before the swap! Then everyone just has to go out and buy from the list. Kim and I were talking about my doing that on the next swap. So happy to hear that your church does it this way and that it works well for them!

Baustin - no problem doing what some assume a man should do. DW and I compliment each other and have similar interests and same interests. It keep us together.

I don't sew though but she does. Sometimes it can be a pain when folks ask her to make drapes or dresses or whatever. She works outside the home and God knows she has enough to do. Since I retired she's learning to share the cooking. She's great at that too. Makes cakes for weddings and cookies. You should be here at Christmas time. Cookie heaven.

Sunny - tell your DH I said go for it. At first I tried to hide the fact that could do this stuff but DW says not to and I choose to take her advice. If she's fine with it then that's all that matters.

I will take pics of the yarn I bought and you all can judge. The camera is charging. As I told Smitty I even asked for help in the Hobby Lobby. I did have the color thingy and a pic of Baustin's squares.

Now as for Rancher Hicks, I call DW Elna Hicks. These are characters from "Meanwhile Back at the Ranch" a Reading Rainbow story we watched with the kids years ago. DW is just as lucky as Elna is in the story. If you Google Rancher Hicks the story comes up as well as anything I've said here. Help me Jesus.

I gave DW a small plaque to hang near her cubicle. "Behind Every Successful Rancher is a Woman Who Works in Town".. So true.

Well have to go look for a pattern. The rose one is a little bulky for the other squares I'm seeing.

Writer - I haven't forgotten you.
