Spring Granny Square Swap

The four season square blanket sounds so nice. I think I'll make a fall one and a spring one.

Thanks for checking my colors. I thought they looked like they matched the color wheel. I might order some yarn from Joann's before the special is over with, but haven't had time to look at the colors online. They have so many brands etc. What brand of yarn did you order? Just curious. I think my stash I posted is Red Heart. The light purple is definitely Red Heart called "Pale Plum". I lost the sleeves for the others long ago. I thought I had some blue yarn somewhere. Hmmm....I guess I need to dig a little deeper in my stash again.

Oh sorry, you asked this already in your pm but I spaced.

I bought the Caron simply soft in a variety of cool colors, dark and light colors. I thought the dark colors would look awesome on a light background for contrast. I have the color "Pistachio", that's my favorite but it is lighter than real pistachios. I also got a rich teal that is called "Ocean", I love this color too. Then I got a purple that is called "Passion" which is not what I was hoping for. It looked like a rich deep purple on my monitor but in reality has a lot of red so I probably won't use this color. Lastly, I got a light blue which they call "Blueberry" but is even paler than a sky blue. I also already had a baby blue, a grey blue, a lavender and a couple different shades of green. The lavender is Bernat's Baby soft so if I use this it will be for decoration only not the main body of the square. It's just too fine for that.

I still need a rich purple. It will look so good against the other colors I have.

I went to the Caron site to look them up and they are sooooooo pretty!

Thank you! I use this brand more than any other. I like the slight sheen it has and it's easy to work with.

Your welcome! I really liked the sheen of the yarn you used your for the fall swaps and I thought you told me it was Caron. I had a feeling you ordered Canon. What a great color selection they have.

I think we'll have some awesome blocks. I still haven't chosen a pattern. My yarn is on it's way. I am glad I did it online as I wouldn't get to the big city for several weeks yet. I should go sooner than that to start Christmas shopping. I'm making some gifts but not all. We have a cold front coming in latr this week that is supposed to bring snow to the passes so may not make it shopping for a while.

I don't know why I am getting so OCD about picking out my yarn when we have plenty of time and I should be working on other projects.

I keep saying I'll finish them up...I'll focus on them, but it's just too much fun thinking about floral blocks instead. I think it's a fabulous idea to have this swap listed earlier than normal, b/c I think we might ALL be in for a long cold winter. Cold front (from the east) came through for us last night, but no snow. Just wet, drab and cold. SO much fun thinking about floral blocks to chase away the winter blues.

I didn't get to take advantage of the JoAnn's specials and free shipping b/c I couldn't make up my mind.

So glad you were able to take advantage of it. You should sign up for their email alerts. I know the majority of the time they have better deals ordering online than going to the store anyway.

Patterns.
I've been looking at a pattern that is a flower in the middle... but I CAN NOT get it to work out!!
If anyone has one (or some) could you post a link????

I'll keep trying the one I have... but it's just not making sense to me.

Bummer!!! Oh I've been there! One year I wanted to learn a sunflower pattern so bad, but just couldn't get it. I finally marched myself over to JoAnn's Fabric to see if one of the ladies there could see what in the heck I was doing wrong. They were so sweet and helpful and after they walked me through it I could finally get it w/ much practice. I never get a pattern right my first try. I should keep all my mishaps and post a pic to give all of us a laugh!
Here are some links to FREE patterns. You have to just click on them and sort through them to see if there are any you like to try. You can also find a ton of free patterns by just goggling free crochet floral pattern.

I can sympthize. Patterns are generally incomprehensible to me. I use them as far as I can, then improvise. There is only one pattern I ever got right and it's a lovely square, but too small for the swap. So I adjusted it and am using it. Good luck. I'm sure you'll come up with something nice.

Yes it's not worth the frustration. Just hunt for a nice floral pattern that is easy to understand. When I can't understand a pattern's instructions I always blame the pattern. They either didn't explain it well or they left out a step. Well? If they explained it clearly I'd get it, right? Of course I would!
