Spring Granny Square Swap

Yes you are correct. They don't make it anymore. I found that brand in sales of vintage yarns but couldn't find a picture of that color. You had me so intrigued when you mentioned the sheen it had. I love yarns with a subtle sheen! I'm going to hit the fabric store today to see if they have anything that jumps out at me.

Congrats on the new chickees Canesisters!

I have eggs due tomorrow in the bator. Anyone else with eggs cookin?
Sunny~ Good luck on your hatch!!!! I got my bator out of the basement early spring and cleaned it up to have it ready to go, but haven't used it this season yet.

Yes Duchess is the second one to surprise me! Speckles hid from me and had 10, Duchess has I don't know how many,, but more than 10! I'll try and get pics before the weekend, if she will cooperate.

Hello everyone, Betty showed the squares to me and they are all so different and pretty. It was a delight just to see each one and I bet they will look very charming when put together. What fun I like to make the pieces but have yet to assemble any into a finished blanket. poor me

Betty~ Glad the squares are all finding your way safely. Oh I know it's so much fun looking at all of them. I felt like it was X-mas or my B-day almost every day when I hosted. Good luck on the quail hatch. Oh I can't wait to see those tiny little babies. So cute!

Canesisters~ Oh THANK YOU for the adorable baby pics.

Congratulations on your first peeps. You are going to have so much fun.

Kate~ Can't wait to see the peeps your sneaky hen hid from you. How funny!!!!

Kat~ Thanks for the link to your gorgeous flower square.

Sunny~ Can't wait to see the color and brand of yarn you chose for the next swap. Doing the swap that way sure will make it uniform on matching shades. No hurry to get started as I always have other projects to finish and I am sooooooo slow at finishing them.

I have 2 broody girls, but keep taking their eggs. One is a blue Ameraucana that has spent the majority of her life broody. It started when she was only 9 months old and goes on & on...Every yr!!!! The other is a hatchery 1 yr old Cuckoo Maran. She just went broody last week and is very, very snippy.

My babies are growing like weeds, stinking up the house and making a nice dust mess, but they are so cute. I'm glad to get get nicer weather to kick them outside to stretch their wings to play in the tractor. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

I'm working on DD's afghan when I get a chance. I went over board on the width since it's cotton and was afraid it would shrink. Hopefully she will remember to wash it in cold water when she's away at college if she wants to stay as big as it is. Oh my... it's so big. I might have to change the width to the length. LOL!!!

That is exactly what I would do (and have many times)! hahaha

I love the baby chick pictures, especially the one with Rosemary in it checking out the baby's. My friend that keeps her chickens at my place had two roosters that decided to fight yesterday and luckily I was able to get in the pen and grab the one rooster that was taking a beating. He's alive but injured either in his leg or hip but Mary came and got him this afternoon and she took him home with her so she can take care of him. I hope she doesn't have to put him down because he is a gorgeous Turken. I have a silkie I think is going broody. I moved her today to a private pen and hope she sits the eggs. Will check on her tomorrow and see.

I'm waiting on one more box. Kate's are on the way and then it will be fun time. I'm sure you will all enjoy your squares as the ones that I've seen so far are just lovely. I finished the last two geckos that I had to applique on my 3 year old grandsons quilt I'm making and started cutting out the rest of the fabric according to the pattern. The quilt pattern is one of Eleanor Burns quilts and instead of the 10" fussy cut centers I'm using 10" blocks with the geckos on them. The rest of the pattern is nine patch blocks and irish chains all done in green, tan and two shades of brown. I'll post a pix when I get the top done.

I would love to have the pattern of that red dahlia in the photo. Can someone send me the directions or how to get them? I guess that would be Kat. Well, goodnight everyone. A busy day tomorrow with a 76 mile to DH's eye doctor and a trip to Costco to get his hearing aid fixed. I'll try for Joann's also. It's a pain in the neck to get old. DH will be 75 next month and I'm not far behind.

I think she posted the link a page or two back. I also would love to see the pic of that quilt! Sounds very cool!

Probably best with your schedule these days! Once you start hatching it's hard to stop! I couldn't remember if I had set the eggs on Wednesday or Thursday but I woke up this morning to loud peeping and get to the bator in time to see a fully zipped peep pushing it's way out. hahaha First baby is out and one more is almost out. Lots more are pipped.

Cool! Welcome!

Went to Joanns yesterday and I now have new respect for those people that have done this before me! I found a couple of great examples of jewel colors but there were no "emerald" colored yarns that were the right weight and in the washable yarns and there were no good examples of amethyst either. The Caron soft was on sale and I was tempted to get it but wasn't sure yet what colors I wanted to choose for sure. *sigh*

I need to download the pics I took at the yarn store and get some feedback from you all since I can't seem to decide.

Any sparkly, beaded, sequined, jeweled etc, embellishments on you, your clothing or decor. Really it covers a lot of things these days but it means adding sparkle and/or embellishments to something or some one. For instance you can add bling to a lamp by gluing hanging beads from it... To add bling to your look you would accessorize with jewelry. Bling bling usually means more rather than less. IDK if I am expressing this correctly. Anyone else?

OK the monitor is not showing these colors well at all and I am not happy with the limited choices I had at my local Joanns but here goes...

Here are the colors I found that say jewel tones to me (or as close to jewel tones as I could find). The reds look the most off from the real color which was deep and rich in person. I preferred the Vanna's Choice below since it was a little more of a true Ruby color (richer and deeper in person). I have given the names of these so that any of you that want to can look them up on your computer at Joanns.com

Like I said these are not showing up well but the top color is "Wine" - Red Heart Soft, and the bottom is "Cranberry" - Vannas Choice.

On these colors the green looks the most off from what it looked like in person but it definitely does not work as an emerald or jade color. The red, I think has a touch too much orange... gorgeous color but not a jewel tone per say. The blue, however, is a nice sapphire tone and the black has small spots of shimmer that would translate well to black onyx.

All of the above are Caron Simply Soft. The black is Caron Simply Soft Party.

These would work to represent turquoise, onyx and silver but they would be hard to use with any other colors.

The grey is Red Heart Soft, the black and turquoise are Caron Soft.

This last color is a green that would do in a pinch but as I stated before I could find nothing that screamed "emerald" to me.

It is hard to see the shimmer of it in the pic but it is definitely noticeable in person. It looks nice but not too overdone when worked up (they had a sample in the store although not using the green).

Oh Caron also had a party skein (like the black above with blue sparkles) of the royal blue that looked very nice with this green but I felt like the colors needed the silver (grey) or maybe a gold, if I could find some. I like the dark colors but like them better offset with something lighter but not too light. Too much contrast is a little much for me.

After seeing what is out there I'm about ready to say let's just do earth tones for the next swap! You know, warm browns, beiges, sage greens. IDK I am a little frustrated that what I see in my mind isn't translating to real life. haha

Sunny-What we see in our minds is generally not real life, so don't think you're the only one who has this.

I trust you on color choice. If there aren't any really jewel-like colors, I'd be happy with earth tones. I used all my beige in squares for my swap afghan, but have some brown and some variegated. I have some light grey ( I don't know what kind) and some black. If you go with jewel tones, may I send you samples to see whether they are useable? If they're not, I'd sit out this swap, and check in from time to time for fun.

Sure! I think some black will work well with the jewel tones. I did really like the black with turquoise and silver but I have a very hard time imagining a lot of this color swimming in a sea of other more muted colors (from previous swaps). So I will probably go with the ruby, sapphire, black, silver (hoping to find a more realistic silver color), and gold if I can find it. In this day and age of everything being sparkly I can't imagine I can't find gold and silver flecked yarn. Off to go look on-line now.
