"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

@Sally Sunshine

Broody hatch done.

Had tossed one of four that was clear.

Two hatched and she injured one to the point of death.

The other did not hatch, looks like it quit early.

Looking forward to lockdown in a couple days.

Just got some Silkie, and couple of Icelandic, SFH eggs yesterday.

They were shipped out on the 5th................

Got 3 broken eggs and 3 cracked ones.

Put clear nail polish over the cracks....
fl.gif

May end up adding roughly 40 quail eggs in a few days.........

Got one quail egg 13.4g today

As you go along, would you let us know specifically how the "repaired" eggs are fairing? That sounds like a great idea but I'm wondering about bacteria.

Yes they will, once they pip internally they will start breathing air and they will start chirping.

CRABAPPLES!!!  The eggs were scheduled for lockdown until tonight!!!  I have to get that egg turner out of there!!!!   :barnie

Don't freak out, but you should get that egg turner out of there and put them on lockdown asap. Do be very careful but try to do it fast because they could get shrink wrap.

Wow, this is a fast moving forum!  I haven't been on since yesterday afternoon and am 125 posts behind!

Update on my eggs:  I bought 2 dozen eggs from a local breeder in Phoenix area; next craigslist add I saw from them they were selling all their chickens and moving for some reason.  Kinda stinks because I was going to complain about the fertility rate in one of their pens.  I had 4 different breed from them, but their Ahola chickens only 1/4 I received was fertile.  Plus, they didn't candle the eggs before selling because one of them had a peck-mark and cracks issuing from it.

So:  11/11 runner duck eggs developing and due for lock-down on Sunday.
1/4 Aloha eggs developing :he
10/12 Crested cream legbar-2 blood rings got pulled (one had a crack, so was expected)
4/4 buff orpington eggs developing
4/4 golden laced wyandotte eggs developing

Super excited for the CCLs and GLWs!!!!!!!!!! Hope I get  at least 1girl from those 4 GLW eggs! (More is good, though;) )

My chicken eggs are due for lock-down on Tuesday (gee-I hope those ducks hatch quickly so my hatcher is empty in time!)

Congratulations! Sorry about they Alhoa ones. By the way what are those? I've never heard of those before. Be sure to post pictures when they hatch! :jumpy

Put clear nail polish over the cracks....:fl May end up adding roughly 40 quail eggs in a few days......... @Coreenelane My incubator made by grandson and class mate will be free to set more eggs around April 10th. Right now eggs are being incubated for a science project that both boys are working on. The second clutch is in a large dog crate in the class mates garage. The hen was given 6 eggs from other chickens and showed signs of broodiness before the science project started. The next day she laid an egg and pushed out 3 of the original eggs. Next day she laid another and is sitting on them. Hope to learn a lot and incubate more eggs. Grandkids showing chickens in 4-H and selling eggs. Hens are paying for the feed and I want to breed and sell chickens. Candled some Sultun eggs today and so far so good. Trying to separate silkis and Sultuns so I don't have any cross breading. I think my silkis are starting to lay but not sure. I am finding very light cream small eggs but I thought I read somewhere that they laid peewee size eggs. @emvickrey I plan on putting my new bator to use this year. @jrc85 firing up the incubator. OK well the duck finally got off the nest so I could see and she was hiding eggs so it is actually 10 eggs under her lol @Mirajane Firing up the incubator to see what she can hatch @chicken19 I have some chicks that I'm hatching right now. They are 12 americaunas, 12 production reds, and 2 caramel queens. @DwayneNLiz I will be setting around 40 eggs I think, mostly barnyard mutts, and the guy at the Napa down the road is giving me 2 dozen bantam/Silkies. Going to use my neighbors incubator-she's had good luck with it. Probably set them on Saturday 3/26 So currently I have 41 eggs in my borrowed bator and daycare has 10, so in all 51 eggs. AHHHH!! I have a chick!! Just finished my first April hatch. Had 8 Silkies go into lockdown, 6 hatched, 2 DIS. @Cynthia12 I'm setting some Bantam Cochin eggs tonight. Should hatch around the 12th...I think. I did have 4 babies hatch. Those bad air cell ones. Had to assist. When I had waited long enough, and found that the first two I checked were DIS..I started opening others. Only got 2 little ones. :/ But, I think, one is a girl. These little bantam cochins have ridiculous feathers on those feets! @draye Set 74 Naked Neck, some will hatch fully feathered, @ about 5:30 PM. Candeled the eggs at ones week. 70 of 74 are good. @chicken hawk 33 Day 14 for my broody muscovy hen.and day seven for shipped chicken eggs in the incubator. Well,my muscovy hen is down to nine eggs now with baby's. @melnjerm I'm not on there. I'll be setting at least 13 cream legbar eggs and 6 olive eggers (blue maran/legbar) eggs this weekend @cree57i I set 17 Golden Cuckoo Marans this morning, (3/31), along with 3 isabelle leghorns and 3 Silverudds Blue in one incubator. I already have 24 assorted SB, SFH and isabelle leghorns in another incubator due to hatch in 7 days whenever that is. Also a cuckoo marans has been sitting for 3 or 4 days on at least 12 eggs. I put SB, isabelle leghorn and blue copper marans under her, but no telling what else she has commandeered. Today, an australorp decided she is broody. She has a BYM under her and as soon as I can catch her off the nest she will have some SFH's under there too. IDK how many eggs she has. All said, I have a minimum of 60 eggs set at this moment, but knowing my broody hens it is a lot more than that! I'm up to 3 broods as of today. No telling how many eggs are under them either. @0wen Putting half dozen Svart Hona eggs in a Brinsea Mini Advanced (casual hatcher so only own a small capacity incubator) tomorrow (4/1) - setting at room temp currently trying/hoping to mend air cells and such courtesy of the USPS. @generaldsherman my turkey egg didn't make it (I'll pick up some turkey chicks in the future when I have a pen to put them in), and I am 1 day away from lock-down on 3 NN eggs-really impressed with them given the fact that they were refrigerating for a week before I decided at the spur of the moment to put them in. Finally got a reliable thermostat for my cooler-bator so will use that for lock-down (got a heat thermostat and a hydrostat for humidity which is hooked up to a fogger to up humidity when needed). All of my duck eggs are progressing nicely, but a couple have terrible saddle-shaped air cells. @kimalulu I have bielefelder, barred rock, English Orpington, Swedish flower hen, Easter eggers and some mixes set to hatch 4/17 and 4/20. @arconfederate I set 10 Icelandic eggs yesterday (3/31/16) I candled this weekend on day 10 and am down to 2 developing, 5 blood rings and 3 clear. @sasafras4u2 So okay I finally have 6 healthy chicks. 20 barnyard mixed,(Roosters are:Sumatra,Crele Orp,Langshan, mixed, Polish, Bantam welsummers Hens: Welsummer, , Blue copper marans, cuckoo marans, EE and olive eggers, Bantam olive eggers, Langshan, games and mixes, polish, Ameracanu, ,Bantam welsummers,light Brahma, .Rhode island red, leghorn) from ebay packed very well. No damaged eggs. 7 isabell leghorn with possibility of split to brown leghorn, 7 ayam cemani thank you BYC member also packed very very well. 10 sizzle silkies ( one looks scrambled)from ebay that were packed horribly (6 not in the pic because they were shattered,16 total I paid for 12.) Going to give them a day or 2 to rest. Going to set them Saturday or sunday!!!!!! @Feather duster I set 30 Australorp eggs on March 24th. Put the incubator into lock down yesterday. When I got home from work this morning the one I was going to assist had died over night. The one that had the tiny pip that didn't do anything all day yesterday hatch out during the night. The three that didn't pip at all I candled and they had died. So I ended up with 21 chicks out of the 26 that went into lock down. @Auroradream26 4 out so far and at least 3 more pipped. There are 11 of them total but there are 267 more eggs in the cabinet bator :) @katsdar 19 eggs made it into lock down, so they should start hatching sat. we will see!!! now Maran dark eggs are they the ones that need extra humidity during lock down? and for the record, I think ALL my hens have decided to go broody except 2 @weegarden We had five chicks hatch total out of 7 in our classroom! 2 didn't make it. One was a little white silkie, and the rest were rocks! The kids are just thrilled. They are taking turns holding them, and just love them. The best part is watching them sneak over to the little blue chick cage, with a book about chickens, to read to the chicks! It is absolutely precious to watch them. My class is just going crazy with learning fun right now! The kids are having a ball! I have 4 eggs in another surprise incubator that could hatch today. :) They will love that! And then I have more hatching around the 25th. @pickachick Just set 31eggs. Taking notes on the chick first-aid kit (a wonderful idea!). 4 golden lakenvelders, Few RIR crosses, Few leghorn crosses,Easter eggers Many dominiques's @wabbit1964 My update so far incubator #1 had 37 growing chicks at lockdown... have had 27 hatch and one of those did not make it through the night and a 2nd one can't get off his back and has a bigger belly than the others so crossing my fingers. There are still 7 eggs in incubator that have done nothing and 3 with pipping. Incubator #2 chicken eggs from a friend and my backyard flock goes into lockdown tonight Incubator #3 chicken from my backyard flock eggs lockdown 4/26 and 5 turkey eggs lockdown to hatch in May turkey and duck eggs arriving by mail today for the May hatchalong @redda I just put 25 eggs in my LG styrofoam bator tonight.I might add a few more tomorrow just to increase my odds and the FUN. This is my first attempt this year. I did one incubation last spring with the same bator. Hoping to hatch out Black Australorps mostly but a couple of buff orps. Last year I started my flock with eggs from our local hatchery. I am trying our own eggs this time. Grandsons ages 6, 3, and 2 are excited. Forgot to mention in my initial post that we will have barred rocks/buff orp mix too. Hatch date April 21 or 22. The banty eggs are still looking well, down to 4 now. 2 due in a week & 2 the week after. @feedman77 I am setting 54 turkeys eggs tomorrow. Not chickens but my 3 broody turkey hens. They are setting on 20 eggs between them. @PaisyQ I set 8 barnyard mix chicken eggs today. @canadachickens So my hens have figured it out for me, I will be setting: 7 americauna, 3 Columbian Rocks, 13 EE's, 6 white leghorn, and 9 silkie this evening. I also have 8 silkie eggs under a broody who started to sit last Tuesday. Hopefully the mild weather holds and she stays put. @DannBlyth This will be my first hatch along though I've read through a lot of old ones that got me hooked! I just hatched out 9 out of 11 chicks from my own mutt flock on March 20th all are doing great. I've just set on the 1st of April some eggs I bought in from a local breeder. I put in 12 black blue splash Ameruacana, and 30 black australorp. I'm pretty darn excited lol thanks for this fun opportunity! @JadedPhoenix I put a batch of eggs in the incubator on Friday and it will be interesting to see what I get. I put six eggs in from a friend at work who has a mixed flock of various kinds. Out of curiosity, I put in a few of my own as well since I have been suspecting that my sultans are actually roosters despite the fact that neither have been seen or heard crowing. They do tend to behave rooish and I've collected a couple of fertile eggs. So here is to a good hatch. @ToddQ Im hatching 13 RIR and 18 Ameraucanas on or about April 21st! @RattleCan This morning is day 6.5 for the 24 EE/OE eggs and 12 royal palm turkey eggs I set so I went ahead and candled to see what's going on. The EE eggs were shipped and arrived with nearly destroyed air cells again (most roll freely around the egg) but at least 11 of them are currently developing. That's exactly how many started to develop out of the last 24 I was shipped and only 2 were able to hatch, so I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. BUT 11 of my 12 turkey eggs are developing! This is my first time incubating turkey eggs and my first time incubating eggs that were laid on my property and not ordered online, so I'm super excited to get some poults! @dgibson0604 I have a good many eggs in my incubator, i have 3 amerucana, 2 bramah, 9 barred rocks, and 6 guinea eggs.( my guineas wont hatch for a while ) Hey guys im going into lock down tonight wish me luck:fl @Lozuufy My pigeons are sitting on 1 more egg. It was an auction for 8+, also my mom and brother really want me to get some more call duck eggs (enablers! :lol: ) so I might get more of those... plus 10 out of 12 chocolate orpington/cream legbar mix eggs I got (shipped eggs) are developing, and it looks like 6 out of 7 of my silver/choc ameracauna eggs are developing too. There are also the 5 silver quail eggs developing and 6 eggs from my ducks in the incubator too @caeti21 I added eggs to the incubator today i have 14 eggs total :) @wornoutmomto3 My hatcher is going to be working overtime LockDown day: First Lockdown day is Wednesday 4/20 (the RIR, bunch of mixed, and bantam eggs) Second Lockdown day is Saturday 4/23 (first bunch of Dominique eggs) Third Lockdown in Wednesday 4/27 (first set of duck eggs and second set of Dominique and quail eggs) Forth Lockdown in Wednesday 5/4 (second set of duck eggs) @billiejw89 I got my serama eggs down to about 43% humidity...I will candle again tomorrow. (Day 11) we are up to 11 serama chicks. Still waiting on 6 (1 has small pip). The eggs in the LG are doing well, I think we are at 26 viable eggs. I have 18 Turkey eggs waiting to go in as soon as the serama chicks are done. @teamfreewill Candled today (day 4) and all 10 are developing perfectly :yesss: @Bryam I have 8 silkie eggs due to hatch in 2 days!!!! @hereorthere Went into lockdown last night. Humidity is at 60-62% in the past 8-9 hrs since I left, but hovered around 57-59% all yesterday evening/night. @CGilbert Joining in with my white, buff, and bantam self blue Ameraucana eggs. @nanceann First time hatcher. I have a buff who seems to be broody so I thought I'd leave americaunas eggs under her. We have one roo and he stays busy. @slordaz Putting 47 in the incubator this afternoon.They are barn yard mixes. set 42 barnyard mixes this morning @banannalee I Finally got an incubator after I had received numerous calls for chicks. So I set up my first hatch. 25 EE's, 4 silkies, 2 ducks and 2 geece eggs one of which is a double yolker. On Day 4 of candling i saw a blood ring on one of the duck eggs so lost that one...the rest are veining up nicely with a couple of ??'s. chickens are due 4/21 and waterfowl on 4/28. @Eps32 I'm in I have 35+ eggs hatching today. Don't know if they count. Also have 42 in the other incubator set to hatch in 14 days. And will be setting another full egg turner of eggs after this hatch today. @SilkiesForEver Still trying to hatch my Rosecomb's eggs. I've got 6 eggs in the incubator. @stiles1113 Hello I'm new! This is my first time incubating and I have call duck eggs, white pekin duck eggs, khaki Campbell duck eggs, and mallard duck eggs. 5 were set Friday and 7 were set this morning. Any tips are greatly appreciated! I'm using the little giant still air incubator @Madonna m Everything looks good so far. Starting on day five. All 24 eggs just rollin along. Keeping humidity in check this time. @SH HoneyBadger I have eight eggs that I just set on April 3. Four eggs are Svarthona and four are lavender Orpington. @Choco Maran I have EE/Dominque crosses and cochin, silver lace, or blue lace crosses due to hatch on April 11th. So far I have four hatched. @rottlady So now my incubator has 12 Barnevelder, 12 Delaware, 4 Crested Cream Legbar and 4 Sizzle @chickygirl7 Welsh Harlequins just went into the bator! Im so excited!!! @Ur-ur-ur-urrr you can count me in this hatch-a-long... I just set 30 HRIR eggs in the bator and 3 penguin eggs. Set # 1: 11 viable, 3 blood rings, 1 highly questionable (will give it more time), and 1 slightly questionable. A few have good veining, but can't see the embryo. Set # 5: 11 viable, 2 blood rings, 1 clear, 2 highly questionable (will give it more time), and 1 slightly questionable. A few have good veining, but can't see the embryo. I pulled the 5 blood rings and 1 clear, and put the questionable eggs back in the bators. There are 24 eggs cooking, and all will (most likely) stay in until next candling. I'm almost positive that the 3 highly questionable eggs won't make it, but I'll be extremely happy if I only lose those 3 from here on... @mrleeroy 10 Cream Brabanter expected to hatch on 4/28! Set 5 more eggs in the bator Yesterday 4/11 to hatch on my Birthday! I candled the shipped eggs last night, and all had movement inside but 1, and it did have veining. Day 7 for them. The newer group of eggs are still riding the turner, waiting to be candled Monday evening. @Jetblack2004 I have 21 eggs in an incubator now. They are Glw x RIR and Lsx x RIR and due to hatch on Sunday! @melaniekemp I set 14 shipped eggs on March 26. Day 19. Just now had one external pip and one internal pip. First time trying to hatch eggs so I super nervous that even now I could lose them all. 14 shipped eggs and only 6 made it to lockdown. I'm so nervous : ( @karenerwin Just set 13 Black Penedesenca eggs on Thursday, April 7th. @circ director Okay, I decided to set 40 for the April hatch. The 22 hens out of 34 chicks hatched in the Easter hatch we're going to be added to my flock, but I got a good offer for the entire hatch and took it. That means I still need more pullets by around September. @Hawk12 total in incubator/s = 27 set on the evening of 04/06 and 04/07. @bbgranch Have 7 guinea eggs in the incubator. Day 14 update for 7guinea eggs. Candled today and all looking good. 14 days to go. Scheduled hatch day is April 24. @darkbluespace Yesterday I set Silkie eggs under my two broodies, more in the bator. 7 Bantam Cochin eggs, a couple of mystery large chicken eggs and 25 button quail. I already have mini chicken, duck, goose and emu incubating so I believe that is the most varieties I have ever incubated simultaneously! I have 18 or so Serama eggs on day 17 and a couple of little hens also on day 17, one with 5 eggs and a tiny tiny hen with 3. My hatcher has an emu in it at 97 degrees, so I guess I'll have to hatch the seramas in the bator they are in. I prefer to hatch in still air... Oh well. I still have a few days. Air cells are pretty tiny though. @junebuggena I managed to squeeze 3 dozen Easter Egger eggs into my Incuview. Day 5 candling here for my overloaded Incuview. Out of 3 dozen set, I pulled 18 clears. @KHoward Tonight I set 18 Icelandics and 48 FCBM's in two Janoel incubators. And because I couldn't leave well enough alone, I set 8 duck eggs under a broody chicken! @Corwynnde I'm so egg-cited to join you! This is my first time incubating so I'm sure I'll have tons of questions. Just got a GQF Genesis 1588 set up today, and a dozen serama eggs ready to go in tomorrow morning! @Tchefunky Chick I wanna join this hatch-a-long. I have 29 eggs incubating. One chick hatched on April 7. @Shay1Bear April 1st I set 30 Americana eggs. Hatch 4-21 April 3rd I set 17 Button Quail eggs. Hatch 4-20 @mammat Just set 8 lav orphington,14 german bielefelders,14 barred rock and 12 silkies in the incubator on 4/7. Also have silkie momma on 5 due to hatch any day now and another silkie momma on 10 due to hatch in 2 weeks :) Had five hatch under broody #1! Cleaned out 6 clears and 2 blood rings today. @heatherfeather7 Just set 7 eggs on April 7, looking for an April 28th hatch day! Day 6 here. Last night, I went in and candled (I know it's a little early, but I am working on a timeline as I am hatching for a class of 2nd graders, and I had to know by today if I needed to discard eggs and start over to beat the end of school year). Anyway, out of my 7 eggs, 6 show lots of veining already! YAY! I put an X on the one showing no development and will check it again on Friday. Going to candle all of the eggs with the kids on Friday, they are SO excited! @chickendreams24 Also with the added eggs we're closer to 9 dozen. I had one broody, a buff silkie, due on 4/1 she had a rough time with eggs accidentally getting broken until we seperated her. She ended up hatching three chicks, two black oegb and a silkie. She had one other egg that internally pipped but never externally. Upon opening it up we were shocked to discover a little crossbeak chick, with possible misplaced/missing eye(one was normal) and a complete lack of a right leg. This chick was a slw/buff Orpington mix. One of the little oegb did require some minor assistance when we discovered the membrane was stuck to the back of its head gluing it in the egg. After two days one of the little black oegb chicks stumbled too close to our Buff Orpington broody due on 4/4. She acted aggressively and pecked the little one to death. The buff Orpington was sitting on 1 slw egg, and 7 slw/buff Orpington eggs. All hatched perfectly healthy leaving yet more mystery about the little deformed chick. These two along with two broodies due the week before were our first broodies. @chickiebaby1 I just had a hatch yesterday and still some coming and I am also setting eggs on a weekly basis. I have 21 eggs in one bator hatching on the 19 and 41 more the 24th and I have 3 broodies sitting on over 30 eggs right now. It is defiantly hatching season here. @mlbuttercup Looks like we're joining in the Hatch-a-Long. My little rescued chicken is out and doing great! Yay! @vonrow We finally set up an incubator today with 45 eggs. (4 mottled Houdan, 8 olive eggers, and the rest are a mix of Wyandotte and Austrolorp brown eggs.) We have 4 different roosters: Blue Polish, Golden Wyandotte, Silver Wyandotte, and one mystery Rooster with feathered feet and bright red eyes ...so our hatch should yield a neat mix of "barnyard" surprises this year. @Dubrovnik On April 9th I set 36 eggs; a dozen Rock Island fertile brown eggs from Andy's market, a dozen multi-color fertile eggs from Red Rose Half Acre farm (the Community Market sells these), and a dozen sage green Ameraucana eggs shipped from North Carolina to California. They will begin hatching on April 30th, if all goes well. @sjturner79 I wasn't going to set for this one, but I now have 4 eggs between 2 Broodies, so I'm in. @GitaBooks I've got some bantam eggs under a broody hen and some in the incubator (in case something should happen to those under the hen). @lizzy14 Anyways here's what I'm entering lockdown with: approx. 9 Rhodebar/CCL , 3 Welsummer/CCL, 2 Blue Andalusian/CCL, 6 Dominique/Rhodebar OR CCL (one of these is the smooshed one though!) @Josefina I decided to try ordering hatching eggs for the first time this year, because I was having trouble finding Calico/Mille Fleur Cochins as day old chicks. Out of seven eggs, five are developing, and should hatch this week!! @hershy5252 After my first hatch in my incubator, I have a Silkie that went broody. She is currently sitting in 7 Wyandotte eggs. And due to hatch the 19th.. First broody too!!! Lol been a exciting month. @samandemsmommy Tomorrow is lockdown day! First time using the Brinsea Mini Advanced! I have 3 cream legbars in and 2 welsummer/cream legbar mixes :) Also have a broody in the coop due in about another week and a half :) @chickenjoe12 hatching 8 eggs each has a name on them (shanique,ralph,lofty,dizzy,pilchard,bird,travis and spud) under rico (a booted bantam) and they should hatch on the 24th and she is such a good mum last time she hatched all her eggs. so eggcited @235chickens Getting eggs for incubator next week!!!!! @CherriesBrood I put in 7 eggs 4 days ago. I put in 2 EE's, 2 Salmon Favorelle's, 1 blue Cochin and 2 Black copper maroons. All are very round eggs so i'm hoping for females. Well I candled all 7 of my eggs this morning, all are forming except for one. So today I pulled out 1 clear all others are still alive and forming well, today is day six. @chickenraiser22 I have about 21 buff orpington/black sex link and 20 barred rock chicken eggs in incubator! @dlp40 I have several april hatches going all at once 2 incubator and 2 broody. Silkie broodies, 1 momma has copper marans x EE hatching as i type. The other momma is hatching silkies( some are her's). In my incubators i have 42 that were set yesterday. EE's, Austrolorps, goldenlaced brahmas, bantam cochins, silkies, and buff orps. This batch is due may 2nd I also have and incubator with 60 eggs in it, more bantams but about the same as above. This batch is due 22 apr. @chcknluvr Hello y'all! Got olive eggers, easter eggers, wyandottes, and dominiques all in the incubator! The big day is April thirtieth! Also got some wellies and sultans coming in May second! So excited! Love my girls! @chickhatcher96 I have 41 eggs (mixed variety breeds-Easter Eggers, barred rock, Rhode Island, golden laced Wyandotte etc) in my genesis 1588 incubator at 15 days! I set 44 and have thrown out 1clear and 2 quitters. I'm doing it at school for my kindergarteners!- they're very excited! It's so much fun to candle them and show them the chick "swimming" around! They're just amazed! My chicks are due the 19th. They usually hatch a day or so early though. @Blooie > May I have your attention please? I have two new chicks! Noticed a little hole in the shell of one about 12:30 in the morning. Got all excited, double checked humidity, and finally went to sleep. Woke up at 4:45 to the sound of very demanding cheeping! Little Olive Egger named Yokel (for @LocalYokel just as I promised I would) and it's so doggone strong! Then later on in the morning I noticed a pip in another egg - and we have a little Cream Legbar! And that was another one that hatched fast....nothing at 7 am, pip at 8, and hatched sometime around 10. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. The other 11 are on day 7. @LeroySouthpaw I'm on my last 5 days of incubating my chicken eggs. I'm starting to get really anzy waiting for them!!! This is going to be a great weekend!!! I had a Golden-laced Wyandotte Roo over 3 Barred Rock Hens and 3 Black Star Hens. It'll be interesting to see who they favor as they grow up. 23 eggs in the incubator, this is our second hatch ever. @hesklj2008 so far we have one Americauna almost half out, two that could be anything with significant cracking, and two more with pips. They are chirping so loud I can hear them upstairs( they are in the basement) @PAchickenlover I have two broodies sitting on eggs. One is sitting on my Svart Hona/Phoenix cross eggs (due to hatch next week sometime, i believe). The other is sitting on my Americana/Phoenix cross and BBR Phoenix eggs ( she just started sitting).
I still have 70 eggs. They go into lick( well actually I won't lick them down, ha, lockdown) down late infamy afternoon. They may be delayed a bit on hatch, we lost electricity for about an hour on this past Monday

My first HAL and experience w shipped eggs has been very frustrating and a disaster, to b honest. There were some great learning moments and successes tho. My first batch of the auction won marans:eek:ut of 15 eggs I ended up w 6 pips. 5 in wrong end. One was in right place, and he had started zipping and I had to go to work. When I got home he had died in shell. One pip didnt start zipping at all and I waited 12 hrs to b sure he wouldnt get out on his own. I read sallys info on last resort helping and tried to follow her advice to the letter. With much patience, I ended up w a hatched chick who didnt look good at all. He laid there w occasional twitches but couldnt even hold his head up and rarely even opened his eyes. To my amazement, he survived the night and finally was up and running after about 24 hrs! He is about a week old now and doing great! With the high costs for the eggs n shipping, he has been named steve, my million dollar chick. Lol. I had also set 5 of my own eggs that I thought were from marilyn n elvis who r white silkies. Imagine my surprise when they came out and were obviously from my mille fleur bantams. I hve just recetly gotten back into chickens and all of these birds are all new. Out of 5 eggs, 1 was clear, and 3 hatched. Not too bad on those for my reentry at hatching.
The next batch up is in lockdown and due to hatch friday. Again mostly Shipped eggs. I do have 1 pip but the numbers already dont look good, as i have already thrown out over half due to clears, bloodrings, and stoppers. I have ayam cemanis, super blue egg layers (brown leghorn / creambars, silkies, chamois spitz. The silkies have been the most frustrating bc only 2 developed at all. The rest were clears. The only good about this batch is that I know I must b doing SOMETHING right bc out of the 4 duck eggs of my own that I set, all four are doing perfect and they will b due next friday. Will let u know how this all turns out but I am not holding my breath on the shipped eggs. Im not giving up so I started another batch of my own eggs. My guineas started laying so a few of those, 4 more duck eggs, 4 ameraucnas, 2 bantams, and 8 of my moms comets/kelso game roo. These comets are from her hen that lays eggs that are as big or bigger than my duck eggs and lay EVERY day without fail. Sorry this is so long. And lastly, I topped this all off by getting attacked by my new royal palm turkey tom a few days ago, lol. Roughed me up pretty good..story posted in turkey talk forum if u care to read..crazy, crazy, lol. So thats it..cross your fingers for me on shipped eggs that r left, plz..I wont b trying those again til I get better at hatching. Its been discouraging but also im encouraged by my rates w my own eggs.
@sally sunshine

I feel your pain. I have learned, who to buy from, and who not to. Not only person, but from which state..still learning...now..I know, NOT to buy from VA. Shipping from there to here in Ut. is not good. This is the first real bad batch I've had in yrs. I thought I would give that state a chance because I hadn't tried it yet. Why..can I buy from GA. and get good results..and not there. I know her eggs were fertile..at least the one that was cracked was, because I will open the cracked ones to see if they are .. it was. I had so many rolling air cells in the others. Sometimes your eggs will look clear, not fertile, but they are, they just don't start because of the shipping/handling. I know quite a few states I can buy from and do well with shipped eggs now. I just ordered some from Texas. Thing is, I haven't bought from this particular person yet..so, now I will find out it these eggs are fertile from them. I will check tonight .. a few and see. So, you will find out which state ships quick and fast from there to you, and how the air cells look..good..bad? And, you will find out who has fertile eggs! Those two together..works out. Silkie eggs and any small bantam egg in fact, will be hard to hatch. If the silkies have those high vaulted tops, they have a hard time turning. I always check and see by candling on day 20 if there are no pips by the middle of the day. If there are internal pips, I put them back and wait. If nothing, I assist. I have saved so many chicks this way, just like yours. Most of the time they come around and do well. This is how I got two babies from this hatch of bantams from VA. Nothing was happening. Two internal pips out of 6 that went into lock down. Others..DIS, all absorbed. Made me mad that I waited later in the day instead of mid day. So many folks will disagree with assisting. That's ok, to each his own. When I have seen them do so very well with assisting..it doesn't bother me to help. I have had a lot of good hens because I helped. I'm glad your little one is doing well! So, don't blame yourself and think you need to get better at hatching if you are having trouble with shipped eggs! Just write down the bad hatches, and know you probably shouldn't order from that area any more. Can't blame the folks that ship from there either, not their fault how the eggs are handled. Some places use different types of handling, and they can be rough. I don't mean by hand, I mean by machines. We can't know who uses what. Good luck on your next try. Biggest problem is, wanting eggs from an area I know probably won't do well...lol...like these little bantams from that area. Tried anyway. Now, I am hoping I have a girl out of these two..and they are both black. Was so hoping for a blue mottle like the one she shared to sell her eggs. :/ Yep, I know the chances of that too. lol..
