Sure no prob.

But the shipping was very rough.

I don't know if this is a good one to go off of or if we need a control group

Even without a control, we can see if the eggs are contaminated. I guess that would be the first consideration. I imagine that my current hatch will be a very poor one for me so I'll probably be ordering again. If I get another couple of cracked eggs, we could try using them and some of the uncracked ones for the control group. They would all be the same breed, exposed to the same shipping conditions and I would put an equal amount of fingernail polish in the same places on the intact eggs. As close to having one variable that I can get. Sounds like a fun experiment!

What does a separated air cell look like????

It's an air cell that isn't attached. When you move the egg around the air cell will roll with the egg and get to the highest point it can. Usually a result of rough handling during shipping.

We still have 11 healthy chicks. 5 eggs in the incubator, I candled them 1 looks good the others look iffy.

Will do. I hope you can get some. Cochins are amazing! You will love them, they are super cute and beautiful. I love mines personalities. I know a hatchery that sell those breeds and ship all over the country if you'd like they are called chickensforbackyards hatchery. They are not that popular but they are really good. I got all of my birds from them.
Yes! I will hopefully be getting some molted Cochin bantams from mypetchicken hatchery this summer or next year. I just wish they had the splash. They are! Sadly our only EE bantam is a cockerl and we aren't sure yet if we are keeping it. Little stinker, he had to choose to be a boy. :/ lol

Thanks I will look into that one. I haven't heard of it before. I had one bantam barred cochin, well she was supposed to be a cochin but I think she was half bantam barred rock and so poor quality. Beautiful and a pretty good layer but not what I wanted. She has almost no feathers on her legs. She has since found a wonderful home with a good family.

I'm so sorry to hear that. You did all you can, I'm sure, sometimes they just don't make it.
