Perhaps I am being a bit hypersensitive, but I feel like Lena's chick that just hatched isn't quite as with it as the others. Of the three chicks that had hatched this morning when I went outside, I'm pretty sure she hatched last (she still had damp patches on her down, more than the other two that had hatched overnight/early in the morning). The two older chicks are starting to move around and investigate, although they are mostly staying under their mamma hen (the Buff Orpington). Lena (the Cochin), who already has a 2 day old hatchling has started to get antsy about getting off the nest and scratching around. When she gets up to go somewhere, her new chick will try to follow but she seems to have trouble standing up all the way and doesn't move very fast. She will call to Lena and then Lena will rush over and lay down again, and her babies will go underneath her and settle down.
Like I said, I think Lena's new chick is the youngest of everyone by at least a few hours, so probably she just needs to rest for a day and then she will start being more with it, but since the others all seem more active than her I get worried, especially since I know there can be complications with hatching shipped eggs, and this is my first time for that. Any ideas if there's really something to worry about, or am I just being over protective?

Too adorable! :love

My Broody hens hatched 7 Serama babies yesterday and this morning I have 6 out in the incubator and another 8 or 9 eggs in there. I obviously can't count because I only thought I had a dozen. :D

It could be that it is fresher and not as coordinated yet. Sounds like mama is doing a good job of returning to it as needed. Give it a couple of days. Sometimes there are issues we can't see going on and we loose some of the babies to that but hopefully it is just too fresh to be very active. Keep us posted.

It turned out a girl!  And now, I have the boy!  Only two of those eggs in there.  Doing this for a friend.  He said I could keep what I wanted.  I want these two Bielefelder's, and the first blue that hatched.  Hope it's a girl.  :)   Two more blues in the bator.  I got these eggs from a friend, that got them in a few towns over.  We are in Utah.

Congratulations I'm glad you got the pair and I hope the blue is a pullet for you. :)

Thanks! I've hatched chicks before (too many to count!), but never from shipped eggs, so I'm more hyper aware of what the chicks are doing. A lot of the chicks I've hatched spend a whole day after hatching just resting under their mamma, so I would guess she is just in need of some rest after hatching (hopefully). This afternoon, when her older sister was getting some food and water with mamma, she climbed into the food bowl, so I think she's starting to get more active now. :)

Also, the last two eggs that had only pipped this morning, have hatched! Yay!
