"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

I'm suppose to have chicks hatch today but I think my Hovobator killed them. The temp was great all up till lock down. I took out the turner and added water which ended up being too much. The temp spiked to 103 and humidity up to 69. I finally got the temp down and it went down to 96. I removed some water but haven't been able to get the humidity down more without removing it all. The temp is at 99. I have no pips and haven't heard any peeping. I'll leave them in a few more days in case all the instability slowed down their growth. Last time I almost gave up I had my best hatch I ever had in that bator.

Ahhh, I wouldn't worry too much! Give them a little time. I have had a spike to 106 degrees that didn't kill my eggs! It takes them a while to heat up so I am hoping for the best for you!

Quote: Nothing special. I have a brincea mini advance and have followed the basic directions with filling half the water cup and temp of 99.5. Last year, I had 100% hatch rate for fertile eggs. The first one I did, I weighed every three days and compared to what they were supposed to lose and it was spot on. So after that I just fill the water cup and hoped for the best. My guineas seem to be very fertile and hardy. I also put 7 eggs under a hen and let her sit until the last moment. Took them out and when putting in the incubator, saw pips and heard peeping. All 7 came out just fine.

In addition, I let the guinea hens accumulate a pile of about 30 eggs. some got eaten by a snake, some didn't develop, but ended up with about 25 keets hatched over a period of two weeks. I really think they incubated themselves in the 100 degree heat last summer because the hen was not a good mother and I ended up putting the eggs in an aquarium with a sponge and a heat lamp after the first two hatched outside. I can't believe they hatched and were healthy birds.

@SallySunshine, hope you feel better soon!!

I'm becoming so depressed! My last hatch for the year is over (until maybe fall when our Rooster reaches 6 months). I want to keep incubating!!!!

I'm glad you guys said it is ok to be crazy, cause here are my newest chicks as of a few minutes ago. I am now officially banning myself from the Rare bird Auction site. I am powerless over good deals and my life is unmanageable.

GCM's from @Moribus should start hatching today!

15 East Frisian Gull and 2 packing peanuts (probably Queen Silvia).

Hopefully Frisian Gull in Lemon and Gold

Packing peanut.
Oh my, how cute!!!

More cute ones!

We won't stop you, incubate some more!

Hey all! My son and I got out the trusty homemade cooler incubator today. We'll be putting a dozen eggs in from our back yard flock. The rooster is one bird that was successfully hatched by old fashion broody hen. He's 3/4 BO and 1/4 Welsummer. The hens are some mixed we've hatched, BO, Dominique, and Sussex. So far our best hatch was 8 out of 17 eggs. We'll see what this year brings. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a good hatch.
