"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

They are the best! Here is our kids playing the other day. They are so fun. Very addicting though. I started out with 2 and said no more and now we have 6 does and a buck and we are adding a 2nd buckling next month.
Yes get goats, they are so much fun. Kidding season is the best.
I love them! We got twin bucklings as bottle babies and they're just like dogs. And they're BAAAAAAAAAAAAAD. Like toddlers. Into and out of everything. Mine were getting into the chicken feed. We made the pop door so small that the roos could just barely squeeze through, and those bad boys still got in! They're finally too big now.

Wow, they are absolutely ADORABLE! May have to get some. Plus now we know how to build them a shelter since we are building a new chicken coop right now :p Or I could make them a cattle panel hoop shelter thing since I'm making the run out of that. They are so cute! And I can handle sassy toddler dog like behavior, that's how our dog now is! Lol sooo sassy! He snaps the air when he wants to play, when he wants to go out (and mouths you and makes noises), while doing his favorite trick scoot, when you tell him he CAN'T GO. He gets sooooo mad about that one lmao and he steals everything and chews everything. He mostly sleeps all day but I admit we're bad about exercising him plus he's a very intelligent dog so needs mental stimulation too so even though he mostly sleeps, he does get bored and he will go steal something. And he is such a brat too because if he's feeling especially sassy then when you take one thing he immediately go gets another thing. Other times he just looks depressed you took away his fun. And also, he doesn't really do this anymore but still occasionally does where if you get mad it him he will go chew something in retaliation. People say dogs don't do that but he does. And sometimes it is something of YOURS not just a random thing. My mom used to yell at him when he was younger and an adolescent (he's 4 now) and so he would always go steal and chew her shoes. And ONLY her shoes. Did not touch anyone else's. Lol she got so upset. Soooo.... I am used to BRATS. Goats will be nothing :p LOL

I finally got momma up to eat a little food so i could see what was going on under her. Two are hatched the rest aren't too far behind. The one chick is an Americana/Phoenix cross the other is Fibro/Phoenix cross. I am beyond thrilled with these chicks! Americana/Phoenix cross Phoenix/Fibro cross
:love

Awwwww Cute!
Hey mike or anyone else with them, what are goats like? Cause I've been wanting them a couple years but then I got the chickens in October. It still really want them though. Maybe instead of encouraging me to buy more chickens and get amazing breeds you should be encouraging me to buy goats :p

They are too cute to be bad!
Waiting for them pips to start! It's the best/worst wait.
Good luck!
Thanks everyone! Now i just have to wait for the others to hatch! Sitting on my hands now........ Why is the waiting so hard!!?

Success! I had both eggs hatch this morning between 3 AM and 7 AM. Two new Icelandic chicks in the world!

I don't have a picture of the 2nd one yet but she looks like she has a mask over her eyes. It's not very Nordic but I'll call her Bandit. Any suggestions for this one?

Hatch day

Well I left 7 EEs and 2 OEs that were rocking around to go to work... No pips yet but boy they were rockin n Rollin. I just wanna watch them hatch and who knows if they will wait for me to get home or not. I was gonna put the chick camera on them so I could check from my phone but I have a Mastiff who is gonna have puppies any day now. The chicks can hatch without help, but the doggy has to have an assistant. Too bad I can't put the dog and the incubator in the same room.

Anybody have experience with The Odd Pet Vet? The exam prices seem reasonable and over 3 is actually really cheap so i was thinking of taking the chickens in for a check up, figure it couldn't hurt.

Also anyone know of any good livestock vets? Really really want to get goats and I want to start looking in advance. Also are they expensive to keep? I'm hoping they aren't and/or that I can fimd a cheap but good vet. I know it probably varies a lot by area but I'd like to know, for example, how muchare vaccinations, check ups, etc.? And do most vets do farm calls or should I go there? Is it more for a farm call or included? And I've watched a lot of videos on hoof trimming and it seems pretty easy, definitely a lot easier than horses and wouldn't need farrier training, but I don't know, do vets do that? Is it reasonable? And for the record I've never actually trimmed a horses foot, just picked them, but that's my point, horse feet are complicated and a harder material right?

Made a thread a while ago and got some great answers on diet, gender, and that stuff but never really asked or got answers on the vet stuff.
