Hi. First time hatcher. I have a buff who seems to be broody so I thought I'd leave americaunas eggs under her. We have one roo and he stays busy.

Question: can I use a sharpie or something to mark or date the eggs so I know how we are doing? I only have 2 americaunas laying. Multiple hens use the nest she's brooding in.

Thanks for advice.
Yes a sharpie will work great for marking eggs.

Yes, I just got it about a week ago. It's the model that has a fan and it came with the egg turner. After some adjustments, and waiting..i finally got it to temp last night. It just takes forever to stabilize after opening the lid. My brinsea gets back to normal super quick after putting the lid back on after candling, so I guess it just takes patience lol. But I'm afraid to open the lid now.

Mine gets back up to temp pretty quickly (is the still air version), but the digital readout is WAY off. And theres a big variance in temp from the side thats got the heating element to the other. And don't even get me started on that dumb probe :barnie

Hopefully yours will do better than mine :fl

@billiejw89 I lost your posts, but I have LG tips for you! I'm using the still air 9200.

HEAT SINK. I fill the water troughs with river rocks (bought on clearance YEARS ago) to help hold the heat. It takes FOREVER to warm up initially, but after that it only takes a few minutes to recover temp. I'm a meddler, so this is important.

TEMP STABILITY. The LG is super finicky about it's environment. It's important to keep its ambient temps stable. I keep mine wrapped in a blanket this time of year because the temps in the house are up and down (60 in the morning, 67 in the afternoon). Because it's still air I'm running 101-102. With the blanket on it's not having any trouble. Without the blanket it was running 98-102. It it gets above 102, I just take the blanket off for a while. It's easier to adjust the environment than to constantly fiddle with the dial.

That's my best advice for anyone using LGs. They're persnickety, but work fine once you understand its quirks. Of course being a meddler I like looking at it all the time. LGs are not the best for setting and forgetting, even though I've done that too.

Just gonna jump in. My pigeons are sitting on 3 eggs, and so far 2 have hatched! The one named Rattytwoie (

) hasn't hatched yet, but hopefully should hatch tomorrow. The two that hatched so far are Rattytwoie's uncles/aunts.

I also have 6 duck eggs developing that should hatch around April 21, and some quail eggs that should hatch the 25th. Plus I just ordered some Chocolate Orp mix eggs that should come in soon, and some pure breed Ameraucana eggs, and some more call duck eggs

Good thing I went with the extra large brooder.

If anyone has tagged or is looking for Sally Sunshine, her internet woes continue with wind rain and sleet. She's able to occasionally get on and then loses the connection. She's frustrated and may give up for the day.

I hope it will be ok, I'm hatching someone else's eggs right now! When I candled yesterday I could see veining on a few, but most of them looked early in development still...so maybe that is the temp difference in certain parts of the bator. I guess we will find out when hatch day comes.

. But the other 2 baby pigeons are doing well even with this cold weather. I guess I will have to name one of those Rattytwoie...

Here's a pic - in case anyone wants to see what a day-old baby pigeon looks like - of Ratty (baby pigeon from new years day HAL). The new babies look exactly the same
