I see a pip...

Day 20 on 26 Silkie eggs. No sign or sound yet but hopefully tomorrow.
I have a JG hen who laid 8 eggs in a Muscovy duck nest. Then she went broody. She sits on top of the duck. Took all the chicken eggs out of the nest and gave them to a broody Silkie. Not sure if the duck eggs will hatch. They were laid when it was still getting cold at night and it definately smells bad by the nest. If nothing happens in the next week I will be cleaning the nest up and kicking the duck off. The JG hen is sure persistant about sitting on eggs.

Need help!
I have a chick that pipped at the wrong end yesterday. It looks like it started to zip but stopped I took it out to check and it still has blood vessels BUT I swear I can hear two different peeps in there. I dont know what to do . The egg is dark so I am not sure if they were double yolk or not. If they are twins how can I help them?
I have had chicks pip the pointy end. You can slowly help the chicks but stop if there are any blood vessels still with blood in them and if there is stop and wrap a moist paper towel around the egg and put it back for awhile and watch it.

Yay, i love silkies! That would be a sight to see, a hen setting on a duck

I thought I'd stop by and give an update on my hatch (or lack thereof). My first group of eggs (shipped) locked down Sunday evening and should've hatched by now. At candle today none of them were moving. They'll get until tomorrow, but it looks like 0% for those.
The second group due to hatch on 5/2 will lock down tomorrow. Those were candled on Monday for day 14 and the one was still a quitter, but the other four looked like they should on day 14 and the air cells looked great!
The third group due to hatch on 5/9 was candled on Monday as well for day 7. All 6 of those looked like they were developing great and the air cells looked good too!

The fourth group was set last night under a possible broody (1st time for her). 5 eggs the same flavor.

Everyone has had such beautiful babies hatch!

Have a great day!
