sprouting grains for chickens

Hello, I know this is an old post, but wondering if sprouting grain equals to fresh green grass, my chicken don't free range and wondering if this will replace green grass

I haven't tried feeding sprouts yet but it sounds like an excellent idea for winter when greens aren't available..

also, is the only difference between feeding sprouts vs fermented feed the fermentation (ie. adding ACV or yeast). Does fermented feed sprout?

I do both. I am not up on the science of it all but, I have been told that it is the same nutriutional benefit in sprouting and fermenting. I ferment my layer feed in water and acv. The avc is not essential, it will ferment in just water. Look on the fermenting feed for meat bird threads and in the last month beekissed gave a great brief lesson on fermented feed. I am sprouting because I am not free ranging and want to give my girls some fresh greens and it is more of an activity (scratching and tearing it apart) for them than the fermented feed is. I don't want to do all sprouts because I want to make sure they are getting a complete nurtrition. I do both to keep the feed costs down and it is healthier for my girls. Fermented feed does not sprout as far as I know but I don't use grains just layer pellets. I have added some scratch to it and it has not sprouted. I have never heard of someone's fermented feed sprouting but I can not tell you why.

I use milo (sorghum) for sprouting for chickens. I buy feed milo at feed store. It is cheap, sprouts very quickly, and the chickens like it. I keep 2, 2-qt pitchers by the sink for sprouting. I just leave the lid ajar for air. I grow them out only 2-3 days. Very easy.

Egg quality and quantity always go up when I'm sprouting. I especially sprout through the winter when green are not as plentiful. Sprouts contain as much as 200 times the nutritional value in some nutrients as the same grain not sprouted. The chickens pass the super nutrition on to us in their eggs.
