Squirrel cleaning question

I make a slit right in the middle of the back big enough to get two fingers in and peel the skin off from the middle towards each end. I generally get no more than a few hairs on the meat but they do stick like glue. All I know to do is pick them off one by one.

I guess I'll just have to be the one cleaning them for now on!

I told DH that his way gets hair on the meat but he's stubborn and stuck in ways...He said he cleans them just fine!

My mind is reeling. I'm just kidding myself though, my wife wouldn't clean a squirrel if I held a gun to her head.

We hunt all the time and I clean my own deer, hogs..whatever. I've even butchered our meat chickens and rabbits with no help from DH.

I get a few on mine as well from time to time. I just take a propane torch and burn the hairs off. All you have to do is wave the flame over the hair. Don't hold it in one place or it will burn the meat. Just wave it back and forth and you will hear the hair crackle. It will be gone. Then just rinse and it is ready.

When I was young my grandfather did it with a rolled up newspaper. Same principle.

My mother used to boil the squirrel parts until they were tender and then roll on flour and fry. Always turned out delicious. Sometimes she would make a gravy after frying. Not ate squirrel in a few years. May have to give it a try before season goes out.

In my family, the women do the gutting, skinning and processing of deer, squirrel, turkey. I've seen my brothers drive across two counties to bring a deer for my mother to gut and process for them.

I started my sons out doing their own but I supervise closely and will do it myself if it is done sloppily. I don't like scurf, dirt and hair on the meats I have to process and cook...sometimes, to get it done right you have to do it yourself.
