her eyes are clear, she has an appetite, plenty of fresh clean water, fresh fruits and vegetables daily, no lice on her, she about 5 month old, not close to laying yet. today i noticed her staggering and wanting to nap?????? everyone else is great. any suggestions?????? when everyone gives their birds electrolytes what kind do yo give?

We have a similar problem with our BO. We currently have two, 8-months old buffs and over last two days one of them has been lethargic, wants to nap in the middle of the yard and has one eye closed. There are no signs of swelling or injury around the eye that is closed and she has layed her one egg/day and is eating as normal. We feed them layer pellets and a handful of scratch and mealworms as treats, but nothing else.

Our bird's lethargy seem to clear up after feeding them some greens and yogurt. Is it hot and humid where you are at? Are buffs are noticeably affected by the heat and humidity. Maybe supplementing their food would help.

There are some recipes for homemade electrolytes online which are good to put in the water (in small amounts) during the heat of summer. Salt substitute is used in many for potassium and the sodium comes fro salt or baking soda. Here is one recipe:https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/272142/need-help-fast-electrolyte-recipie Be very careful giving electrolytes so as not to overdose on certain minerals. Pedialyte and gatorade poder are commonly used also.
