meanwhile with Ruth, one year after being found by Nicholas.
Ruth looked to Nicholaus quietly watching him. Nicholaus finished paper work, they founded Ruth on a centaurian ship and decided to keep her to help with paperwork, waiting till she was 'of age' to sell off to the rukes. Ruth stepped up to take the finished paperwork, watching him "You want these filed with the others?" She asked. "Yes please Ruth... How old are you now?" He asked. "I will be 20 in a month" Ruth replied and waited a moment to see if there would be any other questions. "Five more years then your grown, correct?"
Ruth nodded "Yes sir" she said, waiting patiently for any other questions, before filing the papers away. "Okay, you are freed to finish filing." Ruth dipped her head and turned to go to the filing room. When she had filed the papers, she let herself think of what the questions could mean for her and her future. There was not anything else for her to do and she was freed to walk the grounds. Ruth wandered away, eventually ending up outside. Another female was out there, quietly reading a book. Ruth paused when she saw the female. She looked up, "Hello." She said softly, she was a type of hybrid. "Hello" Ruth said softly
"You were in the filing room, no?" "Yes" Ruth answered "I file the papers for Nicholaus." "Ah.." She said softly, her face darkening at his name. Ruth tilted her head "Don't you do the same thing here?" "no.."
"Oh" Ruth said softly. "Yeah." she said softly, "I am just a entertainer..." She mumbled. Ruth watched her quietly a moment then moved closer "I get to help with the filing until I'm 'of age' and then I get sold off, most likely to a ruke"
"Ah, poor you." She said. Ruth shrugged, "At least I get the five years until then, I could of already been there." She shivered slightly at the memory of the night her parents had been killed. "True." She sighed. Ruth sighed softly and looked back to the female. "..Can you write?" She asked softly. Ruth nodded "Yes" "Lucky." she said Ruth tilted her head a little "You want to learn?" "Please!"
Ruth grinned, then glanced to the house "Do you think they would mind, or should we keep it a secret?" "secret."
Ruth nodded, then paused "Weren't you reading when I came out here?" She asked "I can read, but not write.." "Well, that will make it much easier" Ruth said and lay down, clearing a patch of dirt and picking up a stick to use as a drawing tool. "If it wasn't a secret we could use paper, but for now the dirt and a stick." She wrote a word in the dirt "Just follow the lines and tell me what it says." she said handing over the stick. She looked at the word, and slowly copied it. Ruth watched her with a gentle smile. She shakily did the words, but had a big smile on her face. Ruth looked up to her "That is great" She said encouragingly
"Really?" Ruth nodded "Really. Use the words from your book and practice" She said writing another word in the dirt. "Okay." She looked up at the sond of laughter, and quickly hid the words ans stood up, head lowered. Ruth stood, looking to the laughter, then looking down to make sure there was no trace of their words left in the dirt. They walked by, the female was clearly thankful they didn't notice her. Ruth glanced to them, then back to her and smiled. She sighed in relief. "Your name is, Ruth, right?" She asked. Ruth nodded "Yes, I'm Ruth. You are?" "They call me Ginger." Ruth smiled "Nice to officially meet you, Ginger." "Same, Ruth."
Ruth glanced to the house, then back to Ginger "So, what do you want to do now?" "walk?" She asked. "Sure" Ruth said "You lead." She said.
"Alright" Ruth said and set off, walking along the path. Ruth turned away from the path, glancing back at Ginger who followed. Ruth turned to follow the fenceline, it was much quieter out here away from the paths. She sighed softly and looked to Ginger "What do you like to do?" "Read."
Ruth smiled, "Yeah, reading can take you to so many places, even though you never leave where you are. Anything else?" "Um, a little sewing." She answered
Ruth shook her head "I am terrible at sewing" "I am good, I guess." she said.
Ruth laughed softly "Yeah, Mom always said I didn't pay enough attention" She stopped, blinking quickly "I really miss her." "I, I don't remember mine." Ginger said softly. Ruth gave her a sad smile "I'm sorry" She nodded. Ruth sighed and looked around. Ginger watched a herd of sheep run by. Ruth turned to watch the sheep also. Herders brought them by, a lamb broke loose. Ruth watched the lamb, it ran their way, Ginger eyes widened.
Ruth flicked her tail and moved to turn the lamb back to the herd. It ran away from her, back to the herd. The head herder nodded his thanks. Ruth nodded back and turned to Ginger with a smile, then turned to watch the sheep and herders move along further.
Ginger looked at the sky, "Oh, no. I have to head back." Fear was crystal clear in her eyes as she turn to run back. Ruth watched her go, then walked slowly returning to the house. Ginger wasn't seen for days later. Ruth wondered what had happened to her. She was by now hiding her her 'spot' a small part of the garden few went to.Ruth wandered the gardens when she wasn't filing papers for Nicholaus. Soft crying was heard, and Ruth moved to the sound. Ginger was behind a bush, bruising all over her body could be seen. "Ginger" Ruth said softly, kneeling beside her. She jumped, scurrying away like a mouse to the stone wall. "It's just me, Ruth." She said staying in place. She looked at her, "p-please go.." Ruth winced and stood "Is this because we talked?" She asked even as she moved away, circling the bushes to stand on the other side
She didn't reply, curling away from her. Ruth sighed softly "Alright, you know where to find me" She walked away slowly. Ruth wandered around the garden, then moved off the paths again, thinking quietly.
Shadows seem to darken here and there...
Ruth stopped and looked around, then took a step back, uncertainly. "You can notice that? Interesting." A voice seem to smirk. Ruth froze in place then looked around "Who's there?" she asked and sent a quick glance to the house. "Oh, a ghost." "A ghost?" Ruth questioned, brows drawing together
"In a sense." he answered. Ruth took a step forward "How in a sense?" A shadowy form appeared. "Just because" Ruth blinked, watching the shadow form "Oh. Why show yourself to me?" "Ah, your a centaur, no wonder you can see me." Ruth nodded "Why would that make a difference?" she asked curiously "I never saw any ghosts on Centauria" "Your eyesight is, special."
Ruth tilted her head a little "If you say so" she shrugged. He smirked, seeming to fade....
Ruth watched him "Where are you going?" "Away for now." "Oh" Ruth said softly "Are you going to come back?" "of course." he answered. Ruth smiled "Alright, see you later then" He made plans for this one, so gullible.
Ruth turned to walk away, thinking. He watched in the shadows. Ruth wandered the grounds, eventually going back to the house. Ginger was quietly cleaning the hallway by then. Ruth slowed when she saw Ginger and lightly bit her lip
She didn't look at her. Ruth sighed softly and continued on to her room.
After a while ginger quietly knocked on her door. "Come in" Ruth called, raising her head from her book. She quietly walked in. "Ginger" Ruth smiled, setting the book aside. "S-sorry about earlier.."Ginger said "That's alright...Was it because of me?" Ruth asked softly. "...Yes." She admitted.Ruth looked down "I am sorry" She quietly sat down. Ruth looked up "I saw a ghost today" "A what?"
"A ghost" Ruth said "He was more like moving shadows that could speak than anything else I had ever seen before." Centaurian sight is special, you can see things others cant" Ruth nodded "That's what he said" She frowned and looked out her window "I never saw a ghost before, it was strange" "What was it like?"
"Like shadows. Moving, talking shadows, then he faded away. He said he would be back" She frowned "If he does I am asking for a name. Calling him 'he' all the time is odd, too" "Sounds creepy.." Ginger said."Yeah it was, especially at first" Ruth replied "It must be... What did it look like?" she asked. "I'm not sure, he was just a shadowy form" Ruth said, shrugging. "Interesting."
Ruth shrugged and grinned "Yeah" "I heard rumors this place was haunted." She admitted. Ruth's eyes widened "Oh, great. So I might see others, too?"
"Yea." She admitted. "Oh" Ruth said softly and looked out the window again, thinking "I wonder if they are nice" "I heard some might be.."
"Might be?" Ruth questioned, then shook her head "Why would they wait a year for even the one to show himself?" "Depends, they might be lurknig, I have seen some weird stuff happen around here... doors opening, that sorta thing.."
Ruth though about it and nodded slowly "Yeah, I suppose so"
"From my understanding the ghost are those who previously owned the place.."
"I have never heard about them" Ruth said. "Lucky."
Ruth tilted her head "I take it they weren't good stories"
"No they are not." Ruth nodded "I will keep that in mind"
Ruth shook her head and stared out the window again, unsure of what to say now. "Hungry?" ginger mumbled. Ruth turned and smiled again "Yeah, you?" She asked and stood up. She nodded, "I'll bring you some food."
Ruth nodded slowly "Are you... I mean can you be seen around me? Or was it just the drawing in the dirt?" "No, I don't want to risk it." She softly.
Ruth nodded "Alright" She said softly then glanced up at her again "I don't want you getting in trouble because of me." "What do you want?" She asked.
"What do I want? I want my parents to be alive. I want to know whether or not my brother and sister are alive, and where they are. I want to be able to have a friend and not have to worry about their safety or my own. As far as food, it doesn't matter" Ruth said and turned away, closing her eyes and hugging herself tightly.
"I..I meant food..." She whisper softly, "I know what you truly want... What many females like us want.." "Home" Ruth said very softly, then nodded still with her eyes closed, remembering. Ginger nodded. Ruth turned to her and smiled, it was almost a perfect imitation of a real smile. "Don't do anything to get yourself in trouble Ginger, I already consider you a friend, and I don't want my friends to be hurt." "I already am in trouble." She said softly, getting up.
Ruth looked at her curiously "Anything I can help with?" she asked softly
"No." Ruth nodded and dropped her head. She glanced up again "You will let me know if I can help, won't you?"
