Started pullets?

I have enjoyed this thread. Trying now to decide between chicks and started pullets. I wonder how much I should expect to pay for the pullets and for what age? A fair price for ten week old barred rock for example. Could I be sure it was a pullet at that point?

Around me 10-16 week old pullets typically go for $20 on CL. Hatchery quality. Mistakes are still made on 10 week old chicks depending upon the breed. BR are quite easy to sex at that time.

18-24 weeks is the usual.....but it can go much later, up to 7-8-9 months for some.

*most* breeds average between 5-6 months for onset of production - some breeds mature more slowly and individuals within breeds can mature more quickly or slowly than the average for their breed.

Hi Percheron chick,

Can you tell with this barred rock? The seller told me they were ten weeks but then said maybe 8 weeks when I said some breeds were much larger. He said they were factory sexed.

It looks to me like about ten weeks. I have two just like it and they are about two months old
