Welcome to BYC, and best of luck with your future flock! I think you've gotten good advice so far as to breeds. I think Easter eggers might be a good choice, too, as they give a variety of egg colors and they are pretty tolerant of heat. Another possible choice are Penedesencas, a Spanish breed. They are a flighty breed, but they lay very dark brown eggs, and probably would be a better choice than Marans for a hot climate.

If I were in your shoes I would probably avoid chickens with black feathers, as black absorbs more heat than other colors.

Whatever breed you choose, I hope your flock is a success, and I hope you will seek help here if you need it.

Welcome

Lovely birds Cyn, I didn't you have Nn's!

There are some ladies here in AZ who make EE's out them too. I like them with bare necks and chests though.
Your birds and eggs are gorgeous. Excuse my ignorance but what is nn chickens ? I do like the idea of Easter Eggers. So pretty and colorful eggs but wasn’t sure how they would hold up in summer.

Well thank you! Nn is naked neck. There are degrees of nakedness though. Some look like they have bibs on and you see their naked necks. Some are bare down to the breast and some have what looks like bow ties on their necks and they're naked above that and down to the breast.

They also have fewer feathers in general on their bodies but not that you would notice until you pluck them. My roo up there has a little bow tie if the girls would leave it alone. The black hen has one that covers the lower neck like a bib

Cool looking birds IM! I've heard the NN's are good layers too...is that what you've experienced?
