I'm FINALLY back on. I've had that awful, incredibly long stomach flu (three days is acceptable, but, 7-10 days!? And all that on top of morning sickness [Aaaaaah!!!!
]), so, I've been off since setting my eggs. I candled for the first time today, just to get a peek. At least 9 of my 16 are looking good including one that I almost tossed because it has a tiny spider web crack. I'm so glad I decided to give it a try!
I ended up putting in the 12 white leghorn eggs from a friend (they typically sell their eggs, but, city people associate white eggs with watery grocery store eggs, so, they offered my husband a dozen to try in the incubator and he knew I'd kill him if he said no) and four of my own girls' eggs--2 "normal" sized eggs and 2 "junior" sized eggs from my newly laying girls. I just took a dozen junior eggs to my parents and they thought they were adorable....and delicious.
At least 7 of the leghorn eggs are looking good (I'm pretty sure one of the questionable five isn't fertile, but, I try not to toss any eggs until at least day ten because 1. I'm a newbie, still; 2. My "candler" is a cell phone with a flashlight app, so, I don't think it's as good as the real thing.
) and at least 2 of my girls' eggs are looking good.
I have some that I seen bloodlines in, but, no embryo yet. I'm wondering if they were early quitters. I'm going to try to be good and not candle again until day 8 or 10 (I'm only on day 4 because I set a smidgy late due to being sick). We'll see how that goes.
How are all of your eggs doing? Anyone else candled? I love the pix! I'll post some of my eggs as soon as I'm feeling well enough to be up and about for more than 10 minutes at a time. Being sick does not agree with me.
