Starting a hatch September 21....hatch along?

Of course you can join us GV Chicken Man!!!

My eggs are on day 4 currently.. so you aren't too far behind!! So yours are due Oct 16th then?

We need a pic of your eggs in the bator for the picture parade!

One pic as requested.

6 beautiful blue eggs in the Brinsea. this is the first time I have tried to hatch eggs from my own stock and the cockerel is pretty young (from my last hatch of eggs bought from a breeder) so ........fingers crossed.

I'd love to join, I set some eggs on September 22. I'm just using a standard hova bator model 1602N, bascically the cheapest incubator you can get, hahaha. I'm hatching 13 quality silver laced cochin bantam eggs that I ordered off ebay for $52, only one of them started developing so the seller sent me more. The problem is she sent me more before allowing the others to hatch, so the the little wire basket in there contains 3 pipped eggs, a newly hatched chick, and an unpipped egg. The rest were all set on the 22nd. This is my first time dealing with shipped egg, and I pray that they develop as I really want to breed these birds.

awesome awesome awesome! loving the photos people!

I turned my eggs this morning at 7am... I seem to do it around the time i feed myself! lol So at breakfast, Lunch and dinner.. it seems to work for me.

My eggs are on day 5 now.. i believe. This is getting exciting!

Looks like I'm joining in! Went out today, found my beautiful splash rosecomb roo dead in the coop- from a spider bite it seems. He's one half of a breeding pair, and OF COURSE his hen is going through her moult, but I'll be setting the few eggs of hers I have and a few others to try and get a few babies out of him. Thank God I saved and bought an incubator a few months back instead of just spending it all on books!

I'm so sorry about your Roo :( I didn't even think of spiders as possible "predators" until I read this post in particular. That is so very sad. I'm very happy that you still have some eggs to hatch that stem from him. Good luck to all of you in your hatches. =]

I'm FINALLY back on. I've had that awful, incredibly long stomach flu (three days is acceptable, but, 7-10 days!? And all that on top of morning sickness [Aaaaaah!!!!

]), so, I've been off since setting my eggs. I candled for the first time today, just to get a peek. At least 9 of my 16 are looking good including one that I almost tossed because it has a tiny spider web crack. I'm so glad I decided to give it a try!

I ended up putting in the 12 white leghorn eggs from a friend (they typically sell their eggs, but, city people associate white eggs with watery grocery store eggs, so, they offered my husband a dozen to try in the incubator and he knew I'd kill him if he said no) and four of my own girls' eggs--2 "normal" sized eggs and 2 "junior" sized eggs from my newly laying girls. I just took a dozen junior eggs to my parents and they thought they were adorable....and delicious.

At least 7 of the leghorn eggs are looking good (I'm pretty sure one of the questionable five isn't fertile, but, I try not to toss any eggs until at least day ten because 1. I'm a newbie, still; 2. My "candler" is a cell phone with a flashlight app, so, I don't think it's as good as the real thing.

) and at least 2 of my girls' eggs are looking good.

I have some that I seen bloodlines in, but, no embryo yet. I'm wondering if they were early quitters. I'm going to try to be good and not candle again until day 8 or 10 (I'm only on day 4 because I set a smidgy late due to being sick). We'll see how that goes.

How are all of your eggs doing? Anyone else candled? I love the pix! I'll post some of my eggs as soon as I'm feeling well enough to be up and about for more than 10 minutes at a time. Being sick does not agree with me.

I hope it's not too late to join in. I put 9 eggs in an incubator tonight. This is only my 2nd incubator hatch. .
I love to join a group to learn from the more experienced folks out here.

If it's too late, no problem.

It's day 3 for me, and out of the 13 eggs, I only see 3 developing.. A lot of them have bacterial blood rings. I'll leave them all in until day 7 but I usually have a pretty good idea by day 3 with the white eggs... I really hope I'm wrong, but I know in the inside that I'm usually right. I may have to go to a hatchery in the spring after all because $52 is too much to be spending on shipped eggs that aren't developing but I really want QUALITY silver laced cochin bantams. Disappointment once again, in my last batch only one developed and I did get him to hatch so he's my little $40 chick, I can only pray that I get at least a male and 2 females. And I just use a little flashlight for candling and it works great. Good Luck to everyone else!
