Starting a hatch September 21....hatch along?

They were a science experiment that turned out well. Refrigerated eggs CAN be hatched. I got them from a friend who has a mixed flock. He doesn't know who laid who - so we have no idea mix they are. And, his rooster isn't the same as any hen that he has. I wanted to see if refrigerated eggs could really hatch, as I had heard that people were hatching Trader Joe eggs, but my Trader Joe's didn't carry fertilized eggs. My friend sells eggs for eating, so his always go into the refrigerator right away and he said I could have some to try to incubate to see if they would hatch. 4 out of 5 hatched!

I have heard of this----very cool that you had such a great hatch.

After today I think I'm sticking with broody hen hatches!
My Delaware chick died and I have two hatched chicks in the bator waiting for the others to hatch. I guess because I have the humidity up they are both wet looking. When my hen hatches they quickly seem to become cute fluffy chicks.
I still have one egg with a pip and five eggs just sitting there.
I split the eggs between a broody and a bator. My hen has hatched 7 of 9 (as of 6pm when I closed the coop) and they all look happy and healthy. The two in the bator look miserable. I can't take them out yet because of the other eggs are in lock-down and I hear that will mess them up. I want to scoop the chicks up and give them to my hen. I think they need a Mommy.

We have a tiny incubator that only holds 7. What my husband did to get the chicks out was steam up our small bathroom with a lot of steam, then he got the chicks and the extra shells out that way. He had no choice to do that - one pipped and zipped and then got stuck because the other two chicks pushed their empty shells on top of it. Opening in the steamy bathroom didn't seem to bother the partially zipped one at all. S/he manage to fully zip out about 4-5 hours later.

Yay for 5, right? Sorry about the other 5. Hopefully, the new 6 will hatch.

Thanks! I am happy that five hatched. At least three of the five that didn't (haven't) hatch(ed) are eggs that I wasn't too sure about. I am happy that two of the three eggs from my flock that made it into lockdown hatched (started with four, but, one wasn't fertile).

I'm a little bummed that I only got 3 from the 12 leghorn-white giant eggs, but, I think I got a boy and two girls from the three that have hatched and that should make for good laying (and maybe breeding?).

my eggs have been in an incubator for 24 days now, and i still have no chicks... i have candled them and i can see a few moving. it looks like some of the chicks may be a little further behind than others in size. is that a problem? and should i keep turning the eggs? or should i just give up on them? like i said i can see them moving when i have the light to the shell... please give me some advice!! thanks!
