Starting incubator

OK something black is hanging on the rear end of one of the newly hatched chicks. Should I pull it off or let it fall off ? I think but not sure it was part of the "sac" it was in.

Never "pull" something off a newly hatched chick. Especially, if you don't know what it is. Pic please.

Sorry that's the best it gets to take a pic. Should they have light or let them rest ?

No, Let it fall off. You might pull out some intestines if not careful

Newborn within the hour. What is hanging out of it. I tried to get a better pic but hard to hold camera and chick. It's a small red sac hanging out.

That is where is absorbed the yolk. The chick should be ok but once again, do not pull on it!

Ron how long do you leave your babies in the incubator ? I was going to leave them all alone until all have hatched. Still some eggs to go and it's day 22. I feel they are better warm, contained and have feed and water.

Looks like the plastic grid on the floor of your incubator? Please watch to make sure the one with some unabsorbed stuff doesn't drag it on that grid and get stuck, or pull it out. I prefer using the rubber shelf liner on the bottom, just for such times. should be fine, but keep an eye on it.

I take them out when they are fluffed up but no longer than 24 hours. I have had them die if I go longer.

Wait until you do not see zips or pips though
