I didn't know that either until I planted pecan trees and started studying on their care. We dont spray ours and they do just fine.I honestly didn't know nuts were chemically sprayed too. However I'm guessing a majority of our vegetables and fruits are
You don't.
Someone once told me if you mix the plants the insects get confused. Maybe that would work with herbs.
I just wrap a small 2" to 3" strip of newspaper around the stem of plants to stop cutworms when I plant my garden in the spring. It's simple and works great.I had the pleasure of finding cutworms had chopped two of my 18 inch high tomato plants to the ground overnight last year. Had never heard of such a vile insect. I spent 3 nights out w my headlamp digging and squishing all I could find. Ended up having to wrap the stems in plastic straw pieces to fit around the bottom, held together with toothpicks. Was able to save the other 28 plants and luckily I had a few inside I could plant in their spots. My chickens will have full range of my garden. I hope they like cutworms.
That doesn't fall off after it gets damp?I just wrap a small 2" to 3" strip of newspaper around the stem of plants to stop cutworms when I plant my garden in the spring. It's simple and works great.
No, but by the time the paper gives out most cutworms have become moths and are no longer a threat to your plants by mid summer. Half the paper is under the soil, so it stays on the plant. That doesn't fall off after it gets damp?
