Stella's Social Club

Reading about celiac (sp) is so facinating. I have been studying cooking in resteraunt (not doing it!) And it is like the cooks nuclear bonds they freak out cleaning over it. Still not enough for someone like your friends daughter however.

It is great they caught it so she does not suffer!

It is fascinating. We even attempted gf for a while for my son's ADHD problems. It is so HARD! It helped his behavior but I couldn't continue with a move and NO support from my hubby. But a good friend like mine is a big gf advocate here in Tulsa and even has a blog. Her recipes are amazing and everyone loves them, which is a big deal for gf foods. Its http://gluten-free-reality.blogspot.com/ she has a curry recipe that is to die for.

Gluten is about more than just washing. Gluten is very sticky and cross contamination is a very big risk. In fact that's why flour and gluten are used as glues. Plus if you've ever scooped flour and then scooped sugar with the same measuring cup- you can't ever use that container of sugar to prepare gf foods. And the sheer number of foods and innocent sounding ingredients that contain gluten is staggering when you are trying to shop and cook gf.

Yikes, I just realized today my post is due for the Ina Friday group I am in. We post an Ina Garten recipe the first Friday of every month. This month it's main courses. I think I am going to make her bleu cheese burger, maybe for lunch so I can get my post done.  Then we'll have cereal for dinner.  :lau

LOL!!!

ADHD is so tough my son has it. They say it runs on the family and I'm fairly certain I was the one with it when I was a kid lol

I have watched the episode where Ina cooks that! I bet it was very tasty.

My Youngest and Middle daughters decided that they like Amaranth porridge! It tastes to "healthy" for me though. It would make a nice Dinner Cereal though.

it is pouring bad here now. I had 1 flooded coop. Not to bad but with the massive amounts of rain expected this weekend . I had to go dig a temporary trench. I have to go to the shed and grab the indoor brooder as I have a few chicks hatching.
Then later I better go do a french drain in front of the coop.
Have everything. was hoping not to get to wet today grrrr

I'm loving the much needed rain, though it does make chicken chores more difficult. My new muck boots are working nicely.

I am feeling thankful for my automatic feeders and waterers this morning, haven't wanted to venture out into the deluge -- although i can see from here there's a sizable puddle in one of the coop's run, which of course the chickens are drinking from anyway...

Ditto for me in the rain! The wind was blowing so hard last night Michael had to go out and lay all the porch furniture on it's sides and takedown all the birdhouses. I have them hanging all the way around the deck. One has to stay up because it is occupied!

The banging was scaring the heck out of me and Tucker!

I had to venture out in the deluge to feed the donkeys, emus, and goats this morning. Since we are on a hill the mud is sliding down making walking treacherous.

We have clear tarps on the fronts of all five coops that we can roll down in the rain to keep the rain out around the doors. Night before last the tarps were blowing out and then banging back against the coops. They have pipe in the bottom to weight them down but it still allows them to billow out. Plus the pipe banging is noisy! Hardware Store McGiver (that's me) solved that problem yesterday by installing "D" rings on four edges of the coops and crisscrossing long bungee core. Works like a charm! The blowing tarps and banging pipes has stopped. I did it in the driving rain so I was frozen to the bone when I got done but it was worth it since I knew 45 mile an hour gusts were predicted for last night.

It's always something! My next challenge will be to make walking to the shelters safer for me. A fall in the mud could be disastrous with my brittle bones. I have some ideas in my head. Of course a motorized gondola would be great, but I may have to put that off a season or two!
