What do you do with all the milk? Have you tried making cheese?

I keep hearing the turkeys are not the brightest of all birds, those hens look either confused or desparate
Yes, my wife makes cheese. We give some to a neighbor, freeze some for our winter use, and some goes to friends when they have puppies to ween.

I have two Ayam Cemani chicks this morning!!!

Still have

for the third egg. They are actually due today, so I'll give it plenty of time. Although this last egg didn't look as far along at lockdown. So it's either slow or was a late quitter.
Congratulations! I want to see what these chicks look like, the adults kind of freak me out.

I guess we'll have to be patient but really...........no pictures? Isn't there a little window or something?

Mike I would have such a hard time letting any of those goat kids go. I would, if left to my own devices, probably become a crazy goat lady, and Hoarders would be here filming. Probably a good thing I have female and they are fainters.

It's difficult at times, the first freshener we just sold was one of my favorites, and the doeling that went with her I wanted to keep. Fortunately my wife is in charge of goat sales. And there is always more next spring.

3 extra roostets were sent to the freezer yesterday, and I can't believe how much quieter it is here. Sorry as I always am to see them go, I think the hens are much happier and so am I.

The lady that picks up freezer lambs also takes my cockerels. Last Monday she picked up 35 birds (and two ram lambs)!!! Still a lot of crowing around here, but it DID make a difference!

I'd put them in my own freezer, I'm sure it costs me more to raise them than I charge her, but I just don't have that much time or energy. She gets her family to help and they do a production line. They leave here in the afternoon and that evening they are all in the freezer.

She always wants boys, but I did sneak in three girls with gimpy feet.

Congrats! Would love to see pictures. Are these eggs from your own birds? Mine are just about seven weeks old. I'm waiting impatiently for them to grow up.

No, these are my first. I got five eggs from a friend and three developed. The third egg is quiet though, so I'm afraid it was a late quitter. Today is day 21 though, so I have no problem with leaving it be in the incubator for now. There were about 3.5 dozen eggs in there and there are still lots of pips/zips going. So far I have 25 chicks out from my mixed hatch, but one needs to be euthanized, just haven't gotten up my nerve yet.

Anyway, since I have two, I'm just going to have to

they are a pair. Or if they're the same sex, then

pullets! It's always easier to find an extra boy somewhere.

Once they have their "sea legs", I'll put them in front of a camera.

Can't wait to see them! And if you do end up with just pullets, I'm sure I'll have some roosters I need to sell this year ;) Do you know what lines they come from?

OMG Jack just stomped Tucker! Michael was working on the pump in the pasture and I guess Tucker followed him out there. I was working on coops when I heard a yelp and saw Jack up on his back legs coming down on little Tucker with his front. Tucker got out and headed back for the house crying. I was running like a fool to get to him. I am looked him all over and don't see anything wrong and he is walking ok. OMG!
