Very cute! Make sure it has some way to seal those windows from the rain! (And critters)

And a dig barrier! A friend of Ladyhawk's in Ky had a fox dig more than 2 feet underneath a hardware cloth skirt to get into a barn and kill all her Polish hens. I didn't realize a fox would tunnel that far! Crazy, huh? Foxes are doing insane things. Ladyhawk's husband found one literally chewing on the corner of one of their coops, trying to get to her birds that way, when wild game is all over the place. He shot it right off the side of the coop.

Seems like a big barn is one of the hardest things to predator proof. Your little new coop should be fairly easy. Cute! More ventilation, for sure. Can't have too much where you live!

I am not getting the attached run. The coop has a solid wood floor and will be on up on pressure treated skids. I am putting in an automatic pop door and will have a sturdy fence built for an enclosed and netted run. I think we'll be ok with that. The builder said he will place extra louvre red vents on the sides. I will cover the windows with hardware cloth so that they can be left carjacked open if neded.

Sounds like a plan, Mary. You'll probably be fine with that. Skids are good, means it can't be considered a permanent structure subject to ordinances/restrictions, other than subdivision covenants, maybe.

I was just amazed at the strange behavior of some of the predators this season, at least on our side of the country. They are doing unusual things, trying to take down prey that they would normally not deal with, like a fox trying to take down a fawn while battling its very fierce mama. And coyotes attacking people, have you read about that? I think some of the main problems I've read about were in a town in California. Wasn't meaning you would necessarily have those issues.

Good grief, I hope not! :ep

Here's a pic of fire rose!

Geez are the predators rabid or just dying of thirst in California? Maybe they just need some Gatorade and they'll go off somewhere else.
The massive King fire last summer displaced a lot of them. So they are coming into residential areas for food. Bears have been sighted in some pretty busy areas around here.

Fire rose is pretty Nicole!

Thinking about you Rinda no hoping things are looking up for your family.

Thanks, no word from the Wednesday interview. Friday interview went very well we hope to hear from them this week. He has another interview in an hour. Got the severance pay Friday so we are jumping off the deep end now.

Our adventure this weekend- Harper got bit by a copperhead snake yesterday morning. I didn't figure out what got her until late last night so we were too late for antivenom. A vet visit and an antibiotic later she's going to be OK. Will probably get a draining sore at the bite area, it was a bad deep bite with lots of venom and there is a lot of bruising that will probably slough off. We have to wean the pups immediately. They are just over 5 weeks old. We will give them goats milk with their puppy food, they will be OK.
