The main hive is doing well, and I'm hoping for a good honey harvest. I did a split to make a 2nd hive in May, and have been having trouble getting a good queen. The first queen was poorly mated and they tried to replace her, but the new queen never hatched. Then I had laying workers (bad), so I added brood for 2 weeks, and on the 2nd week added a frame with a capped queen cell from my main hive. The queen cell hatched, but I haven't found her yet, or any eggs. So, I'm not so patiently waiting for another week to see if she's mated and back in the hive laying eggs.Hi, Kelly!
How are your bees?

Well, that is exciting! What fun! Hope all goes well.
It is about to start raining here . . . . my internet will be down! . . .
Just hanging around home. Raising 2 grandsons, ya know . . . . .
I hatched a few, and to continue the luck I have, I got about 85% males. We will be having a butchering party this fall.
I did get a few Orps from a local. . . . Red, Red Cuckoo, and White. I hatched 2 blue (females) and 2 black (males). I would like to keep the Orps, because I just love those big ol' fluffy birds! Don't know how it will play out, but before winter we will downsize to just a couple dozen birds. I can not give up my beautiful Barred Rocks. I love them.
So, what has been happening here? Mary, you moved?
I worry about our California friends, with all those fires! Keep safe!

This is Tank. I'm boarding him for 1 month until his new owners can come out and pick him up. He's going to North Carolina.
Momo flies to San Jose CA tomorrow! Sofie hopefully goes home next week. Her new owner is trying to come up with the rest of the funds. That's it! Everyone else is gone!
