Checked on my split this morning. I'm happy to report that my new queen is still alive, and the bees were actively caring for her.

I got the wax removed, so now the candy plug is exposed and they can work on releasing her from her cage. I forgot to take a camera with me, so no pictures.

I'll go back in in a couple of days to remove the cage and push the frames back together.

They are getting comfortable. Soon, you will have more eggs than you can use!

Only one is laying. Two are too old and one is too young. Next Spring I'll have lots of eggs. I am getting olive egger, Marans, and cream Legbar pullets in a month but they won't be laying until early Spring. I can wait. I am just enjoying having them again.

Today was scary hot. The Isbar was panting like crazy. We turned their sprinkler on and she stood in it until she was completely soaked. I went and got them some watermelon and I ordered shade cloth for the run. It gets dappled shade from the trees but I want some areas of solid shade during the hottest part of the day.
