Kathy how is your husband doing?
Well, not so great. He said they started him on a new antibiotic. Of course, he doesn't know what it is. He said, "It is a stronger antibiotic and they have to keep checking my blood with it." WHAT??? Makes me think they are checking him for sepsis . . . . ie doing blood cultures. ? Maybe.

The doctor said he would not even consider surgery until Friday at the earliest, and maybe not even then. We are just praying this does not get worse and that it will get better so he can surgery and begin to recover.

I told him to ask for OT or PT to come and help him exercise his other leg and his arms because it has been so long that he has been bed-ridden. His muscles need to be working or it is going to be even worse!

Last night Tyler (son #4) was watching TV and a commercial came on. He looked up and said, "DAD?!" YES, Dad was on a tv commercial. Mike did not even tell us! There was a nurse cleaning the wounds on his leg for the commercial. He said they came back again today and wanted to do another one but he told them he did not feel well enough today.

Thanks for asking.

Commercial? Seems unusual. I am assuming he gave consent. What were the advertising? Anyway, Maybe blood cultures but also antibiotic levels. We took blood levels after a certain number of days for the ones that cause irreversible hearing loss like gentamycin.

Wow Kathy, I hope things turn around very soon. Are you ok? You have to be exhausted. :hugs

Many years ago a vet said he was treating a minor infection in our dog - he gave her gentamycin. She went totally deaf after a couple days. She was very anxious after that and staring at us a lot. She seemed to think we were giving her commands that she failed to carry out. I know how that sounds to non-dog people. I starting smacking the floor to get her attention. She would feel the vibes and wait for hand gestures to know if we wanted her to come, etc. We gave her a lot of extra hugs and loving but, she remained very anxious for the rest of her life. Had it happened very gradually, as it might have from aging, she would have adjusted much better.

I wish we had sued the " goo boos" off that vet. He never told us that was a possibility. Why use a drug like that for a "minor" infection - his word not ours. She was 7 and lived another 7 years of total silence.

Seems wrong to exploit a sick person for advertisement purposes. I guess I thought they used actors. creepy.

With the rise of antibiotic resistance, doctors are more often having to use medications that themselves may cause problems - in an effort to save lives. Thanks to indiscreet and irrational use of antibiotics for minor health issues or for nonresponsive infections such as viruses, we are all having to pay the price.

How far away is he? Maybe you could get someone to watch the grandson's so you can go find out what is going on? Geez Kathy, I hope he gets better soon! And take care of yourself too!

Yes, Mike gave consent.

It is 70 miles to go there. We had no idea this would be such a big ordeal and have no backup babysitters. Tyler and his girlfriend are our helpers. She is off on Sun and Mon and he is off on Sun and Tues. Those are really the only days I can get away without kiddos.

I have to find someone for next Wednesday, because I have to go a court date that is 100 miles away.

Well, good news - today they are installing my new carpet.

Something to look forward to.

Yay for carpet! Boo for long hospital stays and cryptic medical messages from hubby!

It's too cold to paint outside, so I did this in the kitchen this time! Dresser for my 4 year old. Let her pick colors (really just mix from existing paint cans, most from Hannah's dresser), stir paint, do a little painting, and put the knobs back on with me. She was very adamant she did NOT want polka dots like Hannah's dresser. So we went with stripes instead. She wants butterfly stickers to put on it. It was fun!

BEFORE. Hideous.

Getting JUST the right shade of pink.

After!

Oh and got a first egg from my Isbar pullets this morning! But it's brown! AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!
