I think we are going to have an early fall. I have a welsummer hen molting already.
How old is she?

Maybe from stress.
As a chicken gets older, it will molt more often--not just in the Fall. It is a product of aging--and not moving old hens to the stew pot.

Possibly, I suppose. I didn't lose any chickens in the welsummer coop to the predator, but they certainly could have been affected.

Quote: Interesting. I have a 7 1/2 year old hen, and she has only molted once a year in the fall. I'm not sure on this welsummer hen on her age, I didn't pay attention to her leg band.

Crazy Orp is going to get her final chance to be a momma. One of my barnevelders is laying, so I'm going to see if any of them will hatch. She has been trying desperately to collect eggs. As dumb as she is, she does know the difference between a real egg and a fake egg. I don't know if my injured Barnevelder male is mating or not, but they should still be fertile from the male I lost.

Just finished this. Had to completely strip it as it had been spray painted turquoise and tan!

I added the furniture appliques to the drawer fronts to give it a little pizazz. The top flips open to make the changing area. I even made a quilted changing pad. Broke two sewing machine needles in the process.

Had to show this to my DH! It is darling! I have a daughter expecting our 36th grandchild..wish I could get her this!

Wanted to share these two photos of this mountain that I took from my front porch this morning. I love living in this valley. I have a great view of another one from my back porch.
