Stella's Social Club

That is so unfortunate. My sister and her husband have a restaurant in Dallas and location is so important to that kind of a business just like yours. Their landlord is always threatening to raise their rent beyond what they can afford to pay, and one of their responses is to point out the kind of customers that they bring in for the benefit of the other businesses in the building. His constant battle though.

Fire here too close for comfort. It is supposed to be contained now but smoke is horrible. I am going in to lay down with my oxygen on.
And started by a nitwit mowing. Who the heck mows dry grass in 100+ degree weather?

Shop is sort of limping along. Hard to figure out how to let people know we are there. The good news is we are meeting our expenses monthly. The bad news is our neighbor, the only other "retail" type business in the building is moving out in two weeks. We know that will mean we don't have the draw of them anymore and the other businesses don't bring in our type of customer. Auburn is not particularly business friendly either. We have looked into moving, but many of the landlords don't want to lease space to retailers, they want title companies and bail bondsmen. So if something better comes up we might break our lease or just finish out the year, give it our best shot and close entirely if it isn't profitable by then. The hardest part for me right now is that two doors down is a cell phone company that caters to people who can't get a ceel phone contract. They guy who runs it steps out several times a day and puts a note on the door that says he will be back in 15 minutes which is more like an hour. The people who need to pay their bill or get their service restored loiter in front of our store smoking and spitting all over until he gets back. I have some very disgusting video to share with our landlord when we do give our notice. Plus we don't have water so I end up cleaning in front of my shop with water from a little paper cup. People won't walk through all that spew to get in our door.

So we will just press on. I still love painting and won't give that up. This is my latest piece, a 1920's Art Deco vanity.I had to spend $130 to replace the missing mirror and it took me four hours to polish the hardware but I love how it came out. I painted it Renfrew Blue.

Wow, I've never seen a design like that. It's so pretty! I love the round mirror.

I Iove the hardware off that piece.

Thanks! I polished my fingerprints off on that hardware. Almost couldn't access my iPhone because of fingerprint ID! The vanity might be sold be too cheap! Michael quoted a price under pressure so I am hoping she doesn't come back in and buy it!

HI Kelly! Long time, no talk! I finally sold the farm table in the shop but I need to repaint it for the lady. Michael sold the chairs on Sunday.

HI everybody! No way can I catch up more than the last few pages. It's been a SUPER busy summer. My husband has started his own business and I've been carrying on farm stuff mostly on my own but sometimes with him underfoot.

And helping him get things started too.

Getting almost a gallon of milk per day off our milk goats, so today I tried my hand at making ricotta cheese, easy and yummy! Kids start back to school next week, the summer has flown by. Dropbox is full so I can't add photos like I usually do, and I don't have time to sort through and cut down the pictures so more can upload! There are NOT enough hours in the day. Lost a bunch of birds when the heat hit early in June, we were gone all day for Lonny's grandmother's funeral and I came home to over a dozen dead hens and 1 rooster. Heartbreaking. It was the breaking point to sell off my Orloffs though. I lost 5 of 7 hens that week. Ah well. I will have a different breed in that pen next year! Right now I've got my young East Frisian Gulls in there. Flightier than my Leghorns, they are crazy birds and need a TOTALLY enclosed and netted space. Not like my big English orps that couldn't get off the ground if they wanted to!

Sorry to hear about the shop Mary. You do such beautiful work I was hoping things would work out better for you.

Hopefully as the weather cools down I'll have time to catch up more!
