Robhuncor, so very sorry to hear of your losses. Yet you had a silkie live to be 10, and a hen, 14. That speaks volumes for the care you have given your flock. I never knew chickens could live that long.
Thanks Diva. I could write a book about Barney Green's life. She was a survivor and was never sick a day in her life. She also hardly ever laid an egg! But that probably helped her live the long life that she did. I loved my little white Silkie guy, Pointy. I hatched him with 3 other white brothers. I always said they all shared a brain cell, but he was so sweet and gentle and lived years after the other 3 were gone. I just get so frustrated with these darn predators. It's a constant battle, always trying to improve and fortify the pens and then, just as Kelly said, bam, they figure out how to get in again.
