Stella's Social Club

Oh Kathy I am so sorry to hear that. Given what we know now, and the condition under which they hatched, you have worked miracles with these babies. Little number Seven has had a better, if short, little life with you than he would have had if you hadn't brought him home. I pray he makes it, if he can live a full, happy emu life. If not, he has been loved and cared for.

I could use another video. I never get enough of those little whirling dervishes!

I will get a video made.
I think I should have left the hobbles on. 2 of the 3 that had them (includes #7) are simply not gonna make it. They each have a leg that has twisted outwards. I have this emu book - Ratite- Management, Medicine, and Surgery. There is a picture, " angular limb deformity." That is what it is. The emu guy (as well as other reading I have done) says leg problems lead to death. I am not gonna keep a couple crippled emus to tend to.... if they do live. Anyway, this is just sad.

Don't go out of your way for the video Kathy. I certainly understand that this is very sad and stressful for you. I agree that leg problems in babies leads to emus that cannot support their body weight as they grow. Very sad. They should never have been broken out of their shells. They probably would not have the strength to get out on their own as nature intended. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm very sorry to hear about the baby emu's, Kathy! It's so very heartbreaking. You've done such a great job at trying to give them a fighting chance. Something you can be proud of.
