I have good news.........Pancake, my crushed chick, is cruising around like normal and eating. Another wellie baby hatched. 4 more eggs under her (2 are internally pipped) and hatch day is Thursday. Just shows you not to give up on a crushed chick

My Orpington hens did NOT do well hatching chicks. I had to end up giving them all day old chicks. They smash and I think even ate some.
They did raise the day old chicks just fine.. :)

I'm glad Pancake is doing well, and now has friends!

Mary is wishful thinking on the sex of the chick.

That baby is soooo bright! And look at the dark feathers coming in on the wings.
The color is amazing but the contrasting flight feathers makes "it" even "curiouser"!

You'll have to keep "it" so we can see how it turns out!

Kelly, Good news on Pancake.........they are very resilient!

Have a great hump day everyone!

We have our first peachick out, 2 more have pipped. They are a bit early yesterday was lockdown (day 26), they normally hatch day 28-30, or at least that was my understanding.

Quote: That's why she didn't get any more eggs. She crushed several eggs along the way, then crushed 2 with babies in them. She managed to hatch one and didn't protect it and the flock I broke her and she laid eggs for a week and then started sitting again. She crushed Pancake while trying to steal eggs.

When I get back from my 50 mile hike, I'll find a couple day old chicks to put under her.
