I gave some melon (sort of like cantaloupe) to the chickens tonight. Both of the broodies were standing in their nest box with their wings out becuase it was so hot. Luka still has three eggs to go but she stood quite awhile. Anyway I felt to bad for Lukka and DeeDee that I put a small piece of melon in for each of them. They were eating so fast their heads looked like woodpeckers.
I finished giving some to the goats and emus and walked passed the coop again. I was horrified to see the babies chowing down on melon! OMG! I hope they will be ok. The broodies were encouraging them! Thoughts?
. She went back to her office to get the offer paperwork ready to sign tonight.
So we have code enforcement breathing down our necks for selling chickens (we have 2-3 people per WEEK come to get chicks) or more specifically for using a residentially zoned lot for commercial purposes. It's ridiculous. But we've been itching for more property for a while (we have 2/3 acre which is a double lot for the neighborhood) and so tomorrow we head out to look at houses with a Realtor friend of mine. We have a 3 month stay from the city to "fix" the situation. Apparently the city has gotten a complaint that our chickens are stinky (which they are not) and noisy (but there are other roosters in the neighborhood- we can hear them) in addition to the traffic complaint. Yuck!
