Cast iron cooking.....

Are you new to it? I need to buy a seasoned pan at the antique store. I have the worst luck with the pre-seasoned new pans. Everything sticks. There is a booth in one of the local antique malls with hundreds of pans, pots, dutch ovens, etc.

My step dad gave them to me and they are seasoned. They are so heavy and I'm afraid it would scratch my glass cooktop.

My 3 sisters and I learned how to cook with iron. I have always loved it. I hate electric stoves, which I have now. I decided I am gonna use my iron skillets anyway. To heck with it! One day maybe I will be able to convince Mike that I need a gas stove (converted to propane, I guess).

There are some cast iron cooking-buying-caring for- etc "groups" on facebook.

Ya know, some of those old cast iron pans are worth a lot. (Especially the big ol' pots with lids). Not to me - I just cook with them.

But some people pay a fortune for some of them. If I remember right, the best ones are supposed to be the Griswold brand (earlier known as Erie).

Can you tell me what this vegetable is that I just ate? It looked like a red potato. I started to peel it and realized it was not a tator. Inside was orange. It was bland and had a texture slightly like a turnip. Taste was very bland. What was it?
