Stella's Social Club

Got most of my tender plants covered. The citrus trees are on their own.

It's only 46 out there right now but it feels cold to the bone!

a few pics... My 10 year old daughter went for a hike with me up the mountain this afternoon.... She's into "Pink"

My egg skelter. Wish my marans would lay decent eggs. She has a problem with soft shells.

(Eggs with the staples... pancake syrup, butter, jam, peanut butter and the shakers)

My Blue Wheaten Ameraucana, "Geoffrey III". He is a real looker and a big boy, but he hasn't started crowing, nor have I seen him get jiggy with any of the hens yet. He hatched at Easter from a very blue egg.

My polish juvies with a Dellie, a BSL, PWLH and a RIR. Wish I could tell which ones are roos.

Hey Kelly, remember the Blue Marans you were gonna take but I gave it to Michael's daughter instead? She sent this picture of the two sizzles today and BlueAnne.

I told Michael he might think about calling her and asking how she likes the name Blue Andy.

I told ya if I volunteered to take it, it would be a cockerel!

Love the pictures Dar! Your egg skelter is nice and full. Your DD certainly is into pink! Any your boy is beautiful - I hope he never crows.

Deb - those bagels look delicious. I've never made bagels, do you have a recipe for them?

She posted it on the swap thread and I just copied and pasted it in my recipe file...here it is:

Bagels

1 cup warm water
1 1/2 teas. salt
2 Tblsp white sugar
3 c. bread flour
2 1/4 teas. dry yeast (1 pckg)

Typical - mix, knead, let rise until double (about an hour). Punch down dough and let rest a few minutes. Cut into 8 pieces and roll into slightly flattened balls. Punch your finger through the middle and then twirl on your finger to enlarge the hole and even them out. Place on an ungreased sheet, cover with a towel and let rest 10 min.

While the dough is resting, bring 3 quarts of water to a bowl in a large pot, melt 3 Tblsp of sugar into water. Place each bagel into water and boil for one minute, flip over half way through. Sprinkle a little cornmeal on the cookie sheet. Lift each bagel out with slotted spoon and place on sheet. Glaze top with beaten egg white and sprinkle with seeds of your choice (could use cheese instead). Bake at 375 for 20-25 min.

The changes I made, added 1Tblsp of cinnamon and a cup of raisins to the dough. In both places, I used brown sugar instead of white. Omitted the cornmeal and any topping. I bake them a little light because I like to toast them.
