Stella's Social Club

Kathy, those little cuties are so blessed you came and saved them. Bless you for that. Most people would not have known how to react So Quickly. I know I would have been Clueless. By the time I figured out how to help, It might have been to late for any of them.
I would really like to get my hands on the Breeder about NOW! Im ******! Such CRAP!

This is the second chick with a bad leg. The leg is rotating outward more each day. Pink band on left leg. This one is healthy, eating, and running around. The emu guy told me it would likely do okay for a while (possibly months), but ultimately would not survive. I read in the emu medicine and surgery book that even with surgery the prognosis is poor because the leg will often re-rotate even after a successful surgical repair.

All I can say is, you did your very best Kathy, you gave it your all.

Makes me very sad.

its the part of raising livestock that i don't like....but it is a necessary part of being a good steward. i'm all for giving something every possible chance but when it is a fore gone conclusion i would rather put them down sooner than later. its less stressful on them as well as you. x2 what they said about being with the best person to give them every opportunity to thrive. thankfully they are not with people who so called "hatched them"

So Sorry Kathy...

So sad to watch but it's especially hard to put down a creature that is still fighting to live. I suppose I often wait too long to intervene in that regard. I finally put down a splay legged chick after 2 weeks since I knew he wasn't going to get better, but he was still somehow managing to eat and drink and would even stand on his one leg. For some reason no one was picking on him, but I know that would have changed eventually. It wasn't going to be an easy life for him.
