Stella's Social Club

Lukka is not sitting well. Since she went broody, she has changed nest boxes several times, leaving her eggs to get cold. Yesterday I decided to get her some chicks and cut to the chase. Molly was kind enough to meet me in town today with 5 Swedish Flower Hen chicks that hatched yesterday. They are hanging out in the garage until dusk when I will give them to Lukka and see how it goes. I sure hope she takes them because I do not want to raise them. I'll update when I know if the transplant was successful. Look at that sweetie on the right! Why is there always one of these in every crowd? Thanks Molly!
Your welcome Mary ;) it was nice seeing you today. I hope Lukka loves her new babies ...I really think you should have given her 10 chicks :) just say'in!

I know. I heard you say it several times! So far, so good. I hope she is still lovin' them in the morning. She was biting the heck out of me while I was stapling the chicken wire over the front of the nest box. She thought I was after her babies. So sweet.

Update on Lukka. She took the five babies immediately and began cooing to them and tucking them under her. I left her in the upper nest box and closed off the opening with chicken wire for the night. That will give her a chance to bond with the chicks and they won't fall out. Tomorrow I will take down the chicken wire and move them to a nest box in the floor.

I am so hoping this takes and she doesn't have to sit. So far so good.

yeah it came
Good luck, what are you going to be setting first?

When my sister's daughter was young she got hold of a red marker, and drew all over the walls of her bedroom. Then she drew all over the sheets of her bed, and perjured herself by signing her artwork. Then she curled up on the bed in the midst of her crime spree and went to sleep. Wish I could find that picture, is was so sweet - and hilarious.

Has Kathy given an update on the storms that went through Nevada yesterday?

Quote: Let me see if I can look through my growout pens today. Between baking, chicks hatching, trying to put some silkie eggs under a broody today, neighbor's kid graduation party this afternoon (with BBQ), and trying to sort out some freezer camp roos...............................we might possibly be in Auburn tomorrow morning, so I'll try to look in case we are.

ETA - Oh, and I'm trying to pack 6-8 dozen quail eggs to ship before the PO closes at 1:00................and I have no quail flats!
