Stella's Social Club

I sympathize with you. We had a lightening strike 2 weeks ago that blew my irrigation control through my pantry door into the kitchen, totally fried. Blew the pressure gauge off the well , fried the alarm system, telephones, and computer modem, as well as my printer. It blew the GFI on my whole house generator fortunately, so it was not damaged. We were lucky not to have a fire. It took 4 days and $1K to fix it all.
Scary! Glad you are okay!
I had to forgo coffee this morning, even emptying the Keurig reservoir into the two rabbits' drinking bottles. Just came back from a grocery run with bags o' salad for the flock and a couple of gallons of bottled water for me. And ice cream.

Why do my dogs and cat want to lay in my lap? Silly things have fur coats! Lot of good it does for me to wear shorts....

Today is rough. I may start with the adult beverages early - maybe I won't feel the heat so much if I am pickled.
Rough start without coffee. Love the pickled part.
Linda NO, bad, bad!! No adult beverages !! - ICE CREAM is all you need!!

I just stocked up myself - Drumstick rocky road cones, Blue Bunny mini caramel swirl cones, Edy's German Chocolate 1.5 quart, and a pint of Oberweis chocolate. I have already tasted each of them to see if they are on the brink of rancidity( and need to be finished immediately.) I don't care if the expiration dates say 2014m - they are surely lying.

I am under considerable stress because my Birthday is coming up and I will be just a short hop, skip, jump from the dreaded 70's - OMG!!! Of course I've had these attacks every time I go to the grocery store and stock up on ice cream that evaporates in a day or two . There goes all the grocery budget $$$$ and it isn't even hot today - we've had a couple of 70's after a flock of high humidity and flirting with 90's.

You know I think if the chickens were eating ice cream they could survive the heat. Get them the cheap stuff, they won't notice the difference.
When's your birthday, huh? Mine is coming up too, maybe we share a birthday.
I have running water again! The misting system is cooling the chickens, the auto-waterer is working, and I will water the garden around dusk.

You can now take a shower and flush the toilet.
Mary great news - NOW you should get a tomaru long crower for the PITA who lives in the gated community - tell her his offspring are in great demand
I love your evil mind.

I planned to go on a 6 day 50 mile backpacking trip with my son and his Boy Scout Troop. My DH told me (and I quote) that I shouldn't go because I'd never make it. He decided to come along too, because there were not enough adult leaders for the boys - and if anyone got injured we'd need the extra adult. Now I'm way more fit than he is, but I would not make it? I've been working hard on my endurance at the gym - he has done nothing. Gimme a break. I am going to leave him in the dust and make him eat his words.

Happy Chooks - July 7. When is yours?

I used to be a distance walker (my term) in 2003, 2004 and 2005 I did 3,000 + miles each calendar year - with my Timex Speed + distance GPS system. I was the' Tiger Woods 'of walking, in my own mind. Years later we both sort of pooped out.

Now I'm lucky if I can waddle thru 5-7 miles in a day. - once! I just mention that to dazzle you - no,! I learned you don't walk with your legs you walk with your MIND. My legs were always complaining and I would tell them "Shut up and walk." Also never count down - "Oh I just have 49 miles to go!" That breaks the spirit. Just walk a mile and then another and so on.

I used to put foam bandages on toes that were guaranteed to blister . Also some polyfill stuffing (like for arts & crafts) in the toe area as extra padding -and then socks placed carefully so I didn't disarm my blister protection. Of course I walked mostly on flat I imagine you'll be hiking over hill and dale. Women are made for endurance - men maybe some early flash and speed but, we can walk them into the ground.

I will be walking the 50 miles with you in spirit. You GO girl !!

July 14th here. I'll be on the hike for my birthday.

I have LOTS of moleskin, as I'm prone to blisters. It will be high altitude hiking, highest elevation will be 8,200 feet - so certainly not an easy hike, but gorgeous country. We will definitely have to monitor the boys for altitude sickness.

We did a pre-hike of 7.5 miles with our packs at elevation and I think my son was a bit shocked that I out-hiked him. And no blisters for any of us! I got some really thick socks and that helped tremendously! We are planning 8 miles per day so we don't kill the boys and make them never want to hike again, so our pre-hike was what we would experience every day. And it was straight up a granite mountain.

The hardest part is how much food to bring. You don't want to run out of food, but you don't want to be carrying extra weight either. I've been dehydrating some stuff - apricots and hummus so far. We have advise from a man that hiked the whole Pacific Crest trail from Mexico to Canada, so that has been very helpful for preparing for this hike.

OMG high elevation, granite mountain - oh gee, and I thought you could use some tips??? I am truly humbled. I will retreat to my room with the last two Drumstick ice cream cones.

On MY birthday I plan to eat 6 Jon Donaire ice cream cupcakes by myself and without a net. How's that for ambition?
