New blacktop smoothness- perfect for roller skating! Only that looks like a hill so...no!

I used to *love* roller skating when I was young on fresh blacktop.
For the foothills, Mary's driveway is relatively flat.

I used to love rollerskating when I was young too. Now, I'm positive I'd break something.

I have been cooking most of the day. Delivered a green bean casserole to my parents since we won't be spending the day with them on Thursday. It is just like the famous green bean casserole, except it is all from scratch. Fresh green beans, homemade mushroom soup, and homemade deep fried onions. So good! I made a double batch so I could share. My sisters are coming from Oregon to spend Thanksgiving with my parents so they won't be alone.

I also made dressing with wild rice, cornbread dressing with chorizo, and yams with caramel pecan sauce today. I made make-ahead gravy with by roasting turkey wings and tails last week and froze it. Just thaw it out and add extra pan drippings if you like. I also made two pints of cranberry orange relish last week. I'll wait until Thursday for the mashed potatoes and rolls. The only way I can do big holidays anymore is to get stuff done in advance.

I hope my Mom makes it through the hectic day on Thursday. She looked awful when I saw them this afternoon. She will be ninety on New Year's Day. My Dad just turned 88 last week. They sure are frail.

Who else has been cooking all day?

Homemade green bean casserole sounds great, but time consuming. I refuse to make it anymore, as I'm tired of it.

Cleaning today. My house is clean and ready now.

Cooking starts tomorrow. DH is going to collect (meaning process) the turkey we are having that a friend raised. Since we are having 20 people here, we will be having ham too.

I will be making the pies, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potato casserole (double batch since it goes so fast) and the dough for the butter horn rolls tomorrow. MIL is bringing the veggies, and grandmother in law is bringing cupcakes for the kids. (and those that do not like pie)

Thursday morning, I will do the rolls and under bake them so I can stick them back in and heat them when the turkey comes out. I will make the homemade whipped cream also. Then it will just be a matter of setting the tables and sticking things in the oven.

Today is my cooking day - had to work until 8 last night, and back at it all day today. Tonight the plans are for Dried Cherry Cranberry relish, and my grandmothers heavenly Sour Cream Cookies (without which no family gathering is complete). We are also taking some smoked whitefish. We load up the car in the am and head downstate for Thanksgiving at my cousin KJ's.

Well, we aren't cooking, no holiday for us, as usual. Spending it alone. Just as well. I haven't been able to eat much of anything without disgestive woes lately for some reason I don't understand.

We have ice and snow flurries and 25-45 mph winds, after 24 hours of a deluge of rain. Temps are falling from 32 down to the teens tonight for us. Was videoing the blowing stuff for the family, who is for some reason fascinated with our mountain weather, and saw this interesting sight, so kept filming. Here is what I've entitled The Ramp Dance:

I cooked yesterday after 5 hrs of shopping. I have to get less eclectic going to 12 stores for stuff is madness.

We are nontraditional this year.torch it Prime rib , leek bread pudding, creamed corn, 4 mash plate, sunchoke gratin, mint peas and greenbeans. And a few pies.
I had to change some recipes as I dropped my eggs on the floor. So sad

Cyn - I love hearing your Southern voice.

chiqita - dropped eggs, what a bummer.

I was really pleased yesterday, I got 5 eggs instead of 3. I'll probably get nothing today. I did catch a 36 week old Barnevelder checking out the nest yesterday, so hopefully they will get their butts in gear.
