BRRRR it is cold today! 20 degrees, windchill feels like 11. Tonight we are supposed to be near 0, realfeel temp -11. CRAZY- we rarely drop that low even in Jan/Feb. We won't be above freezing again until at least Tuesday.

Looks like a total of about 4 inches of snow out there, luckily it didn't ice as heavily yesterday evening as feared. But a lot of my friends in Texas and Southwestern OK are posting power outages and downed trees and lines from the ice, I guess it hit them a lot harder. We don't have power or water to the new chicken yard yet so I'm doing to be doing a lot of checking and water toting for the next few days...

Living up here in the Lake Effect snowbelt means we always have to take wind, ice and snow into consideration. So we had a big storm a few weeks ago and what goes out? Not the power - the phone lines. Over the entire eastern Upper Peninsula area. Had 6" of rain up in the Sault and it flooded some crucial piece of equipment 8' deep. First time that has happened! People kept coming into the office and saying "Your phones are down" (Duh! So is everyone else's for the next 60 miles or so north, east and west

My Verizon cell phone worked, though.

A few winters ago they got 60" of snow just south of here in Petoskey - in 1 1/2 days.

We are under freezing until monday. But not expecting rain or snow however. I want something to fall from the sky it's too dry here.

forecast here in the north bay is for rain tonight, small chance there will be some snow but it seems unlikely, at least according to the national weather service. i'm keeping my fingers crossed -- but will be glad for rain, it's been crazily dry so far this winter!

We got a few minutes of flurries then nothing. I finished up filling feeders in the coops and waterers in the border, lowered the tarps and called it a day. We took the shade cloth down this afternoon. Michael thought it was unnecessary but I don't. I don't even want to risk it. Besides removing it took ten minutes!
