OMG outside the house is a river!! Yay ! The one time I don't have broodies in all the coops that flood.

i'm waiting for it to get light enough to go check on my coops -- hoping the runs aren't TOO soggy! at least the henhouses are all elevated, so they stay dry...

but loving the rain on the roof!! (although the cats are displeased)

Well, like they keep saying, "We need the rain!" Stay dry inside.

I just realized a horror. In one of my coops, the sensor for the pop door got yanked out and into the floor of the coop. It must have been at dusk last night. This morning three pullets were in and the BCM cockerel and six pullets were out! I found them soaking wet this morning and the other three still in the coop with the pop door closed. They ones outside must have taken refuge under the outdoor shade shelters we built last summer. I am proud of the boy, he did a good job taking care of them.

I love this guy. He's ugly, has clean legs and can't crow, but the girls follow him around like he's a rock star. I think I'll call him Elvis!

Just came back in from taking pictures.

And, they didn't stay under the shelter at ground level. They flew up to the highest point, the flap door that I forgot to close last night, and slept up there. I know because I saw the evidence. It has been Photoshopped out on this picture but believe me, it was there! I am proud of the job I did installing that chain and hook. It held the weight of 7 wet chickens all night! The plywood is a little torqued this morning though. Good for them for finding the safest place to sleep!

Wow they were lucky! We have coyotes and we had to lock up ours in Fort Knox! I think folks under estimate how smart they really are. They get us to feed them, house them, build nests for them, keep them safe out of the weather and even hatch their babies! Wow.... I'm such a Sucker! Susie Q

Bingo SusieQ! They survived long before we provided them all the luxuries and sometime those instinct kicks in and saves them now. Sometimes it traps them in an area where they can't get way. Mine got lucky last night. I need to make sure the sensor is more secure.

I'd like to join and chat. I'm finding it hard to figure out how to get people to chat with me on this site. Any advice Stella?
