This recipe comes from Simply Recipes, a family that cooks and blogs from Sacramento, near me. I tried this a while back usinga ham bone and andouille sausage. It was good. I love beans but always forget to soak them or even buy them in the first place. I am a sucker for any kind of bean soup.

You can quick soak them. Bring them up to a simmer, turn them off and let them sit for an hour. It works.

You do not need to soak beans if you cook them in a pressure cooker. Mine takes 27 min. under pressure and then 10 min. to cool.

I cooked black beans on Wednesday.

I have never used a pressure cooker. They scare me.

My husband just got me this, for my birthday:

It definitely looks scary. Looks like the robot on Lost in Space.
It's an All American Pressure Canner/Cooker. This brand is supposed to be the best pressure canner available. I've wanted one of these for over 10 years, so I can do canning. I didn't realize, until I saw the box, that it can also be used as a pressure cooker.
I have never used one and am intimidated. This brand is supposed to be very safe, though.

Nice pressure cooker capayvalleychick!

Mary good show on the tarp tie downs.

Here is the song "Raining Tacos" - don't watch if you don't like those songs that stick in your head and you find yourself singing it later in the day despite your best efforts to NOT sing it. My children love it...I listened to it and now I am doomed to sing it all day long LOL.

Why oh why did they have to make me listen to it??

We got some snow up here in WA state. It is still snowing and my large fowl won't come out of the coop except to turn tail and run back in.

My silkies are staying in their coop too!

We have 9 inches on the ground - then it kind of compressed/melted just a bit yesterday when the sun came out in the morning. Then it snowed some more yesterday and now today...maybe another couple of inches. The kids played in it and had a ball.

OK I just ran out and took some pics:

There is nary a chicken in sight! Smart chickies!

I have 34 chicks in the garage under lots of heat lamps right now and they are staying cozy- temps are OK under lights. We got more Black Australorps, some EEs, and some more Nankins (RC). They are from Ideal.

The snow on the picnic table and deck rails had been cleared off by the kids on Thursday - it was piled high then too! So that isn't all the accumulation we have had.

My eldest son measured 9 inches Thursday afternoon with a ruler. I have been melting the hummingbird juice several times a day- we have Anna's that don't migrate.

@ronott1 the instructions say not to use it to cook beans, because they tend to froth and pieces may get caught in the safety & pressure release parts.

Oh yes! That one is a Beast!

I have two Fagor Pressure cookers and they cook at15 pounds of pressure. The Beans do not go up into the pressure release. You do need to let the pressure go down for 10 minutes though--beans will fall to pieces if you don't let them cool down some.
