DH was in his way home from Texas tonight. While on takeoff, an engine caught fire. He said the pilot was super quick and aborted the takeoff and slammed on the brakes. They got fire trucks and the whole deal.

They are trying to get another plane so they can get everyone home, but it's Easter weekend, so who knows.

Thank goodness he and everyone else are okay. I just hope he makes it home safely.

Kelly, so glad to hear that he is OK. Takeoffs and landings are the scariest parts of flying.

Mary, sometimes roosters have that competition thing going, and once someone starts to crow they all do (you know - "HE started it!). Maybe if you had just one rooster he would not feel the need to exhibit his charms in the middle of the night.

So nice for you all who have chicks arriving, this part of incubation - the middle 2 1/2 weeks or so - are interminable.

That's scary, not certain I'd want to get on a plane for a bit after that. I hope he arrives home safely soon!

What are the odds of it happening again? He should be the safest one around, as long as he's not getting on the SAME plane!

Glad to hear everything is okay Kelly, hope he makes it home for your family holiday.

Quote: Two left their nest when the weather warmed, I can't reach the nest so I'm going to have to get the egg retriever out (looks a lot like a golf ball retriever). Brooder #1 is still on her nest and very determined. I also have another pip in the Icelandic batch in the Easter hatch.
