I am down to three broodies since the Marans hatched all her eggs!

Kelly, you keep the bad broody vibe at home next week...or I'll stop payment on the Starbucks card!

We stewed it down and will bag it up and freeze it so it's ready as a sauce for ice cream or to add to a strawberry pie or any number of things. Not the most appetizing looking thing, but oh, so good.

The bulk of the cabbage is going into a super crunchy, zingy cabbage relish, almost like a coleslaw in a jar that wekiva bird makes. She sent me a jar and I was in love. Here is the cabbage, peppers and onions with K salt sitting overnight. Tomorrow, will add the spices and cook and can it.

And, in addition to that, we have 3 quarts of shredded cabbage to freeze to use for coleslaw or whatever we want. And one head left to make fried cabbage for supper tonight. I got the date wrong. Rushing it, I guess.
Now that the kids are in bed, I can comment further. This looks heavenly! I've never been a huge cole slaw fan, unless it's KFC's cole slaw. I love that stuff! I have been known to go there just to buy cole slaw - I don't normally eat fast food.

Cyn and Mary..very cute babies! You are lucky to have the broody mamas..I haven't had one in a while. Not sure I would want more than two..at the mostest. :D
Careful what you wish for! This was me once upon a time. Last year I had 10 broodies. So far this year I'm up to 6, and most of my "seasoned" broodies haven't gone broody yet.

My yellow roses are blooming. Yaay.
Beautiful! I'll have to get some pictures of mine soon. We are supposed to be close to 100 degrees this weekend, so my roses probably won't be picture worthy.

Quote: Got ya beat!

I'm fairly certain you can't stop payment a Starbucks card. I claim no responsibility for your future broodies. But I'll be happy to check in on them while you are gone. You just might find some rhubarb on your porch when you come home!

I will admit to being a musical novice. I love the song It's Time, by Imagine Dragons. It was bugging the heck out of me wondering what that string instrument was in it. It didn't sound like a guitar, fiddle, violin, harp, or banjo. I finally broke down and called Mary and asked her to have Michael listen to it. It took him about 2 milliseconds to identify it as a mandolin.

It is a beautiful sound.

I just lugged the window A/C unit into place and turned it on. Many of y'all know I have part-time House Chickens (in addition to the two flocks outside, here and at The Ranch). The two HCs are all standing around panting, with their wings held away from their bodies. Sparkle's four chicks sleep NEXT to her, not under her fluff. They sleep with their necks stretched out along the HC blanket.

It's nearly ten PM and it's 81 inside my house.

Woodland is warming up too. Sunday is supposed to be 104 to 105 degrees. The weather forecast says it will cool down by the middle of next week but I see another 100 degree round after that.

I hope we do not have a super hot summer!

Oh, the heat.

It's just 9:00 and I'm exhausted already. I put a large waterer in the coop with the broodies and babies. We will be gone for a few days and wanted them to not run out of water. To prevent drowning, I placed small rocks and pebbles in the tray. To gather rocks and pebbles I had to bend over all along my driveway finding ones the fit. I don't breathe well when bending over. Yuck.

Then I was attaching a feeder to the gate into the emu pen this morning so Kelly won't have to go inside to feed them. Loca came up behind me and nailed me right on top of my head, drawing blood. I stood up quickly and pushed her away and she kicked to run and barely missed me with her giant clawed foot!

I think I might need a little nap under a ceiling fan twirling at warp speed.

Oops, just remembered it's Ina Fridays. I need to whip up an Ina Garten recipe to post on my blog and the Ina blogging group site. I am doing a simple Spaghetti Aglio E Olio. Then I nap!
