I planted three fig trees about five years ago and they've just limped along ever since.

Today I picked the very first fruit, three lovely ripe figs, with three more nearly ready. There are about another six figs set on this tree.. I closely examined one of the other trees and there are about ten fruit recently set there also. I'm looking forward to these trees going into full production so I start having as many figs as I'd like at my disposal.

They were delicious.

My persimmon also produced for the first time. There are about 40 persimmons set, currently about the size of large olives. I can't wait for fall to try them out.
Yummmm I have tried in the mtns to grow figs but I get winter kill every time. I am not on the coast when the ones down there come in. Sigh.... I can just taste them

Crazyhen, have you tried growing apricots? They do great with winter frosts! Mine had so much fruit this year that an entire branch broke under the weight of it!

Amy, we get apricots here! They grow well, and do well through the winter. A lot of folks like drying them, or make fruit leather. We had so many cherries this year, that we had kids and neighbors picking. A lot of them are doing fruit leather with them. Yum.

And, not fruit, but being called the Beehive state, we have honey! lol..a lot of bee hives going on around here. It's nice knowing if our trees and veggies bloom, they will be pollinated.

Wow, 10 years is a great life for a chicken. I'm sorry you lost her, but you gave her a good life.

I've been on pins and needles most of the day. My dad and his wife have been caring for my grandmothers dog, a chihuahua. (My grandmother is too far gone to have her) Due to blood clots in her legs, my step mom can't care for the dog. I was the last resort for her, but I have a large German shepherd that has never been around any dogs, much less a squeaky toy dog. She has surprised me and they are doing quite well together.

Now for the shock when my DH comes home. He doesn't know yet. I was going to take Maggie to my brothers, but he's got sick kids right now.
No pic of the two of them? They'll probably become best friends.

If it's anything like my Black Mission Fig, it will set 2 crops per year. One now and one in the fall.

Quote: Not yet, I was too busy trying to make sure the little one stayed alive. She was snarling at my german shepherd, which was quite funny. I told her that dog can take your head off with one bite! My husband is not happy about it, but not angry either. We are not little dog people, and where we live is not suited for small dogs - a chihuahua is hawk bait, especially an 8 or 9 year old one. We've often called her the anti-chihuahua, because she is not your typical chihuahua. (she's a deer chihuahua) She loves people and especially kids and is very friendly. My grandmother pampered the crud out of her, so she thinks she's the princess. DH's grandparents really want a small dog, so we're hoping they will take her. They are concerned with her getting underfoot, but she's good about getting out of the way.

Those of us in Northern CA had better enjoy this nice, cool weather today. Starting Sunday, we're supposed to be triple digits all week.
