Oh man, haven't had some good spare ribs in a long time, that's what we call them..BBQ of course.

Mary, finally got your videos to work..wouldn't yesterday on here. Better today. That baby trying to crow, too funny. I want it if it never gets it's crow. We can't have crowing roosters around. Have had a gal try and get hers decrowed, didn't work. I want a rooster so bad. Then, ha..that other one behind the door. It was...croaking, or so it seemed all right. I'll bet that scared the goody out of ya. :D

Decrowing surgeries work best on very young roosters, about 3 months old. I have a friend that looked into learning to do it. She drove a long way and learned from one of the best, and then decided she would only work on her own roosters for a LONG time before she would feel comfortable offering the service to others. Very delicate work.

BUT you could have a Capon rooster! No crowing, and all the pretty colors of a rooster! Much less risk than decrowing.

@The Sheriff so "shipper" is refunding the auction minus the shipping fees, they won't ship to me anymore because there have been so many issues with the chicks coming to my area. Every other box shipped out that day was fine except mine. Disappointing but hopefully I will be able to keep these two pairs alive until maturity. I was able to save one pair from the first shipment and one pair from the second. At least they tried to make it right.

What a bummer when you want the birds. At least they are refunding your money.

That just stinks! I am sure hoping mine get here ok. Right now I cannot even get a response from "the shipper."

Good luck with the ones you saved!

My 17 y/o granddaughter has been in the hospital for a few days, just diagnosed yesterday with ulcerative colitis. She is staring heavy dose steroids today and dreading all the side effects going into her senior year. We spent the afternoon with her yesterday. Too much stressful stuff going on right now. Barely slept last night. I am making a coffee and going to try to catch a bit of sleep on the couch.

I moved the Pavlovskajas out of the brooder into their own coop yesterday and haven't heard a single baby crow. They are next to Isi who didn't like them one bit. He kept wing dancing his girls away from the fence line. His crow got very hoarse yesterday in the heat.

OK, head won't stay erect anymore. Carry on while I go lay down.

This little guy gave me a huge scare this week, Monday we had a huge thunderstorm move through and I was gone ALL day. I got home just as it was getting dark to find that my dogs and goats had broken out of their fence, and the dogs had opened several of my quarantine cages (yikes bad chicken mommy make those cages more secure!!!). I was heartbroken that my pride and joy Cream Legbar cockerel was gone. I only found 1 body out of 4 missing chickens but assumed they were all dead. He showed up about lunchtime today crowing his heart out! And one of the missing hens showed up just after dinner tonight. So I only lost the hen's chick (about 7 weeks old) and a rir hen I used for mixed breed chicks. Phew!!!

I'm test breeding him for egg color because his dad only has one blue egg gene. He won't be used until his girl chickies grow up so I can see their egg color. But he LOOKS fantastic!
