Stella's Social Club

We live in one of the snowbelt areas and it is not unusual to get quite a bit of snow. But overnight Sunday to Monday we got 18" - and it's not even Thanksgiving yet!! The snow was just below my knees, thank goodness for Baffin boots and Carharts. My coops, hive, driveway, etc were a mess. Birds stayed inside for a whole day as I did not have time to get into the pen and shovel.

It was very pretty, though.

Dang, that is a lot of snow!

Your picture reminds me that I need to check on mine tomorrow and give them a patty before the storm comes. With a child home sick with the stomach flu, I'll have a lot of time on my hands tomorrow.

Kelly hope your child is better in time for Thanksgiving.

I remember my son caught a 24 hr .bug that was going around and spent Thanksgiving Eve in the E/r, he wouldn't stop vomiting. We were there for hours - the doc said he'd rather not start an IV because it was difficult on a young child (think he was 3).

Finally it subsided and to test it, the doc. gave him a small glass of apple juice. He drank it like he had never had a drink in his life. After an hour and no barfing he said we could take him home. If he started up again we were supposed to bring him back for an IV. Thankfully we didn't need to.

For years after he called that doctor, the apple juice doctor. He was so pale at Thanksgiving and we were all so exhausted from being up and worrying so much - it was a pretty subdued BUT truly a THANKFUL time.
Times like that remind you how very much you

have to be thankful for.

accuweather shows a front going over Sacramento now and another just off of the coast. You could have snow up there tomorrow since it was fairly cold here today.

Hi all! Busy today doing leaf notices on the new food blog. But I did have time to make this:

p.s. I know you are thinking "yuck" Diva!

Okay Mary, this is getting downright spooky. I woke up just now, from one of my many naps and came to this thread . What do I see but stuffed crab something and your message to me. Gee I don't even need to post a reply you already know what I am going to say. Well you are wrong I wasn't going to say yuck , I was going to

. Fine I'm going back to bed.

Diva, sounds like a scary doctor...

Delicious looking shell!

I saw a herding dog demonstration at an agricultural expo a few weeks back, it was interesting to watch them work the sheep. And when we saw the sheep earlier, they were in an enclosure, one of the dogs was sitting on a chair outside of it, and wouldn't take it's eyes off of the sheep even though hundreds of people were walking past. They were border collies though.

. And it is again (still, actually) snowing here.

I think that shell looks fabulous.

We are in the fourth year of a severe drought so snow in the Sierras and rain in the valley is a blessing for us. As long as the bees and chickens are ok though!

Is a "patty" some type of energy food for the bees? I hope your child is feeling better.

That must have been a very trying Thanksgiving.

I love watching or doing herding with dogs.

I had not realized the drought had been going on for that long.

Last year was the third year and the lowest rainfall year since records have been kept in California. Wells are going dry, those with money have to spend about 100,000 to drill their wells deeper. Some Cities are trucking in water. One widow from our church had her well go dry and a neighbor brought her a tanker truck of water so she would have water for dishes and flushing.

It looks like this year, the fourth, is also shaping up to be dry. It will take several normal rain years to get the water storage back up.

Hoping for a good rain and snow
